Science links: Breast-feeding may benefit boys more than girls

New Scientist reports that an Australian study suggests breast-feeding may be more beneficial to boys than girls. The study of 1,000 children found that boys who relied on breast-feeding for the first six months of their lives scored higher on reading, math and writing tests than those mainly fed formula. The researchers did not find any differences between girls who were breast-fed and those fed formula. Researchers suggest chemical differences in the brain may account for the discrepancy.

Stay on topic if you can. I know you are a lawyer, but the dude should abide with the topic.

11. Lighten up, Francis.
I am mocking the topic, as it is my prerogative to do. You can deal it that, or not, as best as you can.

10. The headline on the original New Scientist article is
"Breastfeeding boosts schoolboys' brains, not girls'"

Good God, what kind of schools are those?!

12. I agree with the physical and intelligence benefits, but also have another take...
I breastfed all three of my children (two sons and a daughter), and I've made sure they're aware that breasts aren't just something for a person to ogle at in Playboy, but that they can serve a very important purpose in nourishing another human being. Too often, people get mixed up in the purely sexual aspect of the female body to remember that.

For the record, my kiddos BF'ed to some degree until 14 months, 33 months, and 38 months, respectively, and all self-weaned. The AAP recommends one year, and the WHO recommends two years.
