Simply Speaking: You better watch out

You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, I’m tellin’ you why, Tea Party-ers have come to town.

Yes, I’ve borrowed a line from a song re-popularized by Gene Autry around 1949, but first heard and becoming an instant hit on the Eddie Cantor radio show in November 1934.

The song still thrills the hearts of our young’uns, in anticipation of what we celebrate as the birth of Baby Jesus and the arrival of that jolly old elf, Santa, who comes down the chimney, down.

Of course, per J.R. Church of Prophecy in the News, out of Oklahoma City states it is probable that Christ was actually born on October 3rd, 5 BC, and interestingly documents why in the December issue of his and Gary Stearman’s magazine of the same name. However, the reason for His coming remains the same, as if December 25th was the actual date.

But back to the Tea Party. They originally held a rally here on the county courthouse lawn, April 15, 2009. Two rallies were actually held that day, one in the morning and another in late afternoon. Somewhere around 200 attended those first events here in Ellis County.

Later on, a good number of Tea Party folks became precinct chairmen in the Ellis County Republican Party (ECRP). Perhaps a lot of good could have come from also becoming members of the Democrat Party apparatus here, but the philosophical divide is so great as to make that impractical.

So, on Friday-last, the executive committee of the ECRP voted to fire off a resolution to all Texas state representatives, stating their disapproval of Joe Straus as speaker of the house. Here is that resolution, in part:

WHEREAS: The grassroots Republicans of this county have worked tirelessly, both in the county and across the Great State of Texas to elect Conservative Republicans, only to have a small minority (11) of those Republicans confer with the opposition party in the prior selection of Speaker of the House, thereby negating the hard work of its grassroots. The current Speaker then awarded Chairmanships to all but one of the eleven Representatives who supported him, and appointed several Democrat Representatives to the remaining Chairmanships. And,

So, you better watch out...

Merry Christmas dear readers of The Ellis County Press.

May Yahweh bless through Yeshua, Christ Jesus, King of the Universe.

WHEREAS: In the 2010 elections, we have again worked hard to achieve the goal of increasing our Conservative Republican Representation from76 to 101 seats. Especially in this election cycle, when the House will be in the process of re-districting, we do not wish to see the current Speaker repeat the same actions. And,

WHEREAS: Through his political stance on issues as important to us as Right to Life and the definition of a marriage as between a man and a woman, he has strayed from our principles. Especially, given the fact that he has in the past voted in favor of gay adoption and gay foster parenting, he has apparently rejected our party’s principles as spelled out in our Republican Platform. And,

WHEREAS: He has abused his power by threatening other Representatives, namely Representative Bryan Hughes, to "re-district" those Legislators who fail to support him in his bid to retain the Speakership. Therefore,

LET IT BE RESOLVED THAT: We the Ellis County Republican Party, speaking through our Executive Committee, do hereby request and demand that our Republican Representatives from across the Great State of Texas, caucus prior to the commencement of the vote for Speaker of the House, then nominate and elect a Speaker who more accurately reflects the principles of our Party.
