Sen. Shelby’s Pork Lust Forces NASA To Spend $500 Million On Canceled Rocket Program

Thanks to Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL), taxpayers are footing a $500 million bill for a NASA rocket that the agency has no plans or desire to continue developing.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that pork legislation inserted into a spending bill by Shelby earlier this year is requiring NASA to spend millions on the canceled Ares I rocket program through March, even while the agency can’t find funds to begin a much-needed modernization of the famed Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, Florida http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/space/os-nasa-ares-rocket-constellation-20101227,0,2096166.story

1. If it was up to me, I'd shut all NASA down in Alabama and Texas and move everything to Florida
There need to be consequences for voting the wrong way.

2. I'd move it to a bluer state with tons of land
California comes to mind. Just take over Edwards AFB and go from there.

4. earthquakes ...
I remember when Hubble was being integrated in Sunnyvale, CA at Lockheed Martin. It was moved to KSC about a week or so before the 6.5 mag earthquake in San Francisco in 1989.

While i felt very sad for the loss of life and property destruction at San Francisco, i also felt relieved that Hubble hadn't been there when the quake hit.
