Keith Olbermann: Bloomberg Is "Condescension Personified"
Keith on Twitter:

NYC littered w/abandoned City buses and Bloomberg is bitching about people not shoveling their sidewalks. Condescension personified.

Other comments:

Walking from 86th Subway to the Met I saw three stuck buses, 5 stuck NYC Cabs and numerous other snowed in vehicles.

120 ambulances stuck in snow, 3 hour EMS wait for critical calls, no Snow Emergency ever declared, per WCBS-TV

5th Ave, Park Slope is a disaster. 3 tractor-trailers, 3 plows & 4 buses r all stuck. One bus is partially on the sidewalk.

At 6 PM local NYC newscasts were largely "gee whiz, lotta snow." At 11 PM they are kicking the snot out of City, Mayor, Transit

2. Poorly managed snow emergencies have defeated many
a mayor... Let's just hope it does so for NJ's governor.

7. One thing I recall fondly about Denver in the mid 70s are those street corner sand bins
I grew up in NYC and we didn't have any of those. There was one right on the corner of Lincoln and 16th right down from my office in state social services up on Sherman.

16th was very steep right there so I always felt confident that the sand was there in case I got stuck on the icy slope.

I moved to CO in '76.

9. That was during the time my parents packed us up for the South
I felt like the original fish out of water, but after stints in LA, VA, and GA, we'd had enough. ;)

I know the exact block you are talking about. It is rather treacherous on ice.

13. Yeah, it's the block with the YMCA
I like going back to NYC for visits. But coming back here is always a happy time, too. I just wish NYC was closer! :D

The south is too "juicy" a climate for a native Coloradoan.

14. Kewl!
When Denver removed them I started keeping some cardboard and old carpeting in the trunk. They saved me more than once. :hi:

3. Bloomberg has been very good at hiding his true self
and/or getting people to ignore what an asshole he is by spending lots of time and money on p.r. to build himself up as the Uber-Mayor/Mayor of Accountability.

But that veneer has melted like this snow eventually will.

And what is left is the REAL BLOOMBERG - a rich old white man who doesn't give a shit about anybody outside of his immediate circle of wealthy cronies, can't take legitimate criticism for when he screws up but still thinks he can hold OTHER PEOPLE accountable even when he won't hold himself or people in his administration accountable for some really screwed-up mistakes.

16. I get tired of seeing the media...
portray him as the go to person for every issue,as though he is GOD and his word is the last word. They also try to portray him as the authority on all issues as though everyone has to come through him to get approval.

During the Mosque debate at first he was making sense until wall street and his fox news buddies got a hold of him and told him to change his tune..

6. Bloomberg didn't declare a snow emergency.
He fucked up big time and he is getting snotty about it.

I, btw, am snowed in on a small tertiary street in Bayside, Queens.

19. Well, my tertiary road is all blacktop now.
At least three passes of the plow last night. Still can't get out because the plowed snow blocks the driveway but the road is passable.

18. We lived in Bayside in the late 70s
We moved there in December of 77 and had two 20+" snowfalls within a week of each other. Luckily the first one melted overnight with heavy rains and warm temps before the send one hit. We moved back to Michigan in 1981. Those snows were just awful -- they handle that kind of snow much better here, but we haven't had anything like that in years. New York seems to get worse storms than we do now.

10. Is this unusual for NYC? It seems that most cities in the upper
Atlantic region usually do a very good job of keeping things moving - very unlike Seattle...
