Starting Jan 1, 2011, - 10,000 Americans a day will be retiring. The most ever. And it will
go on like that for at least a decade. How will this change the USA?

1. Retirees are the most prolific volunteers. Maybe it will change the USA for the better.
Or 50-70% of those retirees will be looking for WalMart jobs.

4. Do you think retirees are moving to Afghanistan or something?
Hey, maybe your generation can make like lemmings so as REALLY not to hinder "any kind of long term recovery."

17. Sure it will!
A good percentage of them are retiring because they have no job and no prospects of getting one at their age.
That's what I'm doing in a little over a year.

7. 10,000 people a day will be turning 65. Doesn't mean they

will be retiring.

Many are still working, and will continue where they can.

Millions of them are unemployed, and have been for a year or two. They may take SSI, or they might continue to
try and find a paycheck. Or both.

On the other hand, it should be a great year for birthday candle manufacturers.

9. I will turn 65 in 2011
But I retired eight years ago.

I do donate blood more than I used to. That has to count for something.

11. Most of those people won't really be retiring
just dropping back to part time employment, if they can find it. Most of them won't have much more than Social Security to support them, thanks to 40 years of conservative bungling by both parties that allowed pensions to be looted and the economy trashed.

Boomers, as usual, are taking it up the bum economically.

12. Most won't be "retiring" - they will continue to work part/time, under the table,
or whatever. Few are wealthy enough to simply sit around and watch the money roll in.

15. Maybe more jobs will be available, but FWIW, just because people CAN
retire does not mean they will. I know several people who plan on working till they are at least 70, some till it is impossible to work any more. I retired as soon as it was financially possible (at age 59), and never regreted it for a moment.

It is sometimes better to consider people as individuals rather than in groups.

16. 10,000 retirees a day is 3.6 Million open jobs a year. That could help the unemployed a great deal.

18. I think that figure is the number who will turn 65...
not the number who will retire.
