Were any birthers, back around the time that Schwarzenegger became Governor of California ...
Edited on Sun Apr-10-11 12:40 PM by Boojatta
talking about a need to amend the Constitution so that, like Reagan, he could move into the White House?

For example, I have recently heard Donald Trump's loud mouth. What was he saying back then? Are there any surviving records of his words?

1. The GOP pushed to amend in 2003
Orrin Hatch sponsored the Senate bill. Here is Dana Rohrabacher, Republican of California, at that time: "We've got some talented people who might be able to help our country and provide some much-needed leadership, and there's no reason if they've been a citizen for over 20 years to exclude them."
Hatch is not a birther, Dana, don't know, but this was a very popular idea among Republicans, mainstream, elected, rank and file, you name it. They all wanted to change it for Arnold.

2. Of Course not, they regrestted he could not run for President
back then. Of course, now they have discovered he is\
too liberal for their taste.

3. What do you mean "of course not"?
Research reveals the past, just as research gives answers to questions about astronomy.

Guesses, judgments, attitudes, and doctrines aren't a substitute for research. They might provide you with suspicions, but they won't be enough to confirm your suspicions.

5. There weren't and it was Orrin Hatch of Utah who
was leading the movement to change the Constitution so Arnold could run for President. Also, no one was questioning that Arnold came into this country as an illegal alien.

6. I'm interested primarily in your first two words: "there weren't"
Edited on Sun Apr-10-11 02:05 PM by Boojatta
However, perhaps I should rephrase my question at the beginning of this thread to clarify what I meant to ask.

Among people who are now birthers, are there any who, back around the time that Schwarzenegger became Governor of California, were saying that the Constitution should be amended so that American citizens who weren't born in the USA wouldn't be prohibited from becoming President?

You wrote:
Also, no one was questioning that Arnold came into this country as an illegal alien.

Did you intend to write the following?
Also, no one was claiming that Arnold came into this country as an illegal alien.

9. No I meant what I said. No one questioned his
legal status when entering this country. He came in on a visitor's visa, but did jobs and worked without a work permit. He bragged about one of the jobs repairing chimneys on Johnny Carson years later and how he and his friend, another weight lifter conned home owners. I'm sure if he had been Mexican there would have been all kinds of inquiries.

10. At the risk of being monotonous ...
I'm interested primarily in your first two words: "there weren't."

I revised my question just in case my original question was misleading. Could you please outline the basis for your "there weren't" answer?

11. I remember when he first got elected
there was talk about trying to amend the Constitution saying that the old way was antiquated. They stopped talking about it when too many n the GOP felt that schwarzenegger was a RINO.
