Poll: Cleveland Preferred Location for 2012 Democratic Convention
http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/15548

1,008 Americans were polled via telephone by Opinion Research Corp. on December 17-19, 2010. 29 percent chose Cleveland, 22 percent opted for Charlotte, 21 percent went for Minneapolis, and 17 chose St. Louis. Another 11 percent offered up another city or had no opinion.

As for who should run for president in 2012 for the Democrats, the poll showed that the majority favored renominated President Barack Obama by 78 percent. 19 percent wanted a different candidate, and 3 percent had no opinion.

On the Republican side, the survey showed that former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee is favored by 27 percent, followed by former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney with 24 percent, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin with 23 percent, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich with 19 percent.

2. The convention needs to be held in a red or purple city, not a blue one like Cleveland.
We need to win over voters in swing state or red state cities. We should not preach to the choir in a blue state city. Our kindness, presence and economic weight can certainly persuade indifferent voters if they hear our message or benefit from our convention. St. Louis or Charlotte would be much better choices than Cleveland.

3. Blue city, purple state
And only slightly blue, at that. Conventions also need to be easily reached from the entire country, and Cleveland fits that bill nicely, as does St. Louis, although to a lesser extent than Cleveland. Charlotte is so completely dominated by USAirways that anyone trying to get there will pay a freaking fortune because USAirways will just jack fares through the roof for convention time.

How many Billy Graham devotees in Charlotte do you think are going to be convinced to vote for Democrats just because they had their convention there? I don't think that there's going to be very many converts to be had there. But gin up some good buzz in Ohio? Could be the difference between carrying that state or not in 2012.
