Professors start website for rich to give back tax cuts
A new website is encouraging the richest Americans to give their tax cuts to charity.

Four professors from Yale and Cornell universities created the Give It Back for Jobs website after Republicans forced President Barack Obama to extend Bush-era tax cuts for even the wealthiest Americans.

"But we citizens need not abandon ourselves to this failure of government. Instead, ordinary Americans, acting together, can create shadow fiscal policy. By acting together, we can set the country moving toward a just prosperity.

"Americans who have the means should refuse to surrender to Senate Republicans. We should act, together, to give back our Bush tax cuts, by making donations to organizations that promote fairness, economic growth, and a vibrant middle class," the site added.

Suggested charities: Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, Children's Aid Society, Nurse Family Partnership, or choose your own

3. Not just for the rich. A good idea to give back to selected charities.

Well.

Basically their site redirects to the sites for the charities listed. I hope that they do get some takers.

But I do have to say - that if the IRS let me direct where my taxes were to go - it would be to these types of organizations instead of the military.

Hmmm.

4. Maybe I'm just screwy but why not have a donation slot for paying down
the national debt? We'd all benefit from it....non-profits as well.

I think, if this program flies, we'll see some token donations from those with a quilt complex otherwise, not so much. imho

5. The unintended consequence of this will be
that the wingers will point at it and yell "See??? That's what WE'VE been saying forever! Let it all be voluntary! Except for National Defense."

That's sort of the Libertarian wet dream, that all "social welfare" should be the result of voluntary giving by those who are able.

Of course, the real problem is that those who are most able are the most selfish greedy bastards on the planet. Those who will give are just moderately able to do so.

6. Wrong. The money should be given to STATE/LOCAL GOVERNMENTS.
The money has been stolen from the government, and it should be given back to the government.

Giving it to charity just enables the "starve the beast" strategy. It enables the attempt to bankrupt governments and Social Security.

I have written three DKos diaries on this:

BTW, its so fitting that Yale (Plantation Owner's Tech) and Cornell professors would be behind this. They are NOT liberal. They are elitist assholes.
