Megyn Kelly: Calling Aliens 'Undocumented' Like Calling Rape 'Non-Consensual Sex' (VIDEO)
Plenty of conservatives are pretty upset over a campaign by the Society of Professional Journalists to convince reporters to stop using the terms "illegal aliens" and "illegal immigrants" in favor of "undocumented immigrant." But none are as livid as perpetually outraged Fox News host Megyn Kelly, who on Wednesday afternoon asked if journalists were going to start calling rapists "non-consensual sex partners" next.

"You could say that a burglar is an unauthorized visitor. You know, you could say that a rapist is a non-consensual sex partner which, obviously, would be considered offensive to the victims of those crimes," Kelly said. "So how far could you take this?"

"What if there was a push by the criminal defense... bar to re-brand the use of the word rapist to nonconsensual sex partner?" Kelly asks her guest. Jehmu Greene, the former president of the Women's Media Center, said that was like comparing "apples and oranges."

Full story: http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/12/megyn_kelly_calling_aliens_undocumented_like_calling_rape_non-consensual_sex_video.php

I found this via Steve Benen. Wow, a repeatedly irresponsible network attacking the Society of Professional Journalists on the ridiculous grounds that using "undocumented immigrant" is like calling rapists "non-consensual sex partner"? Gosh...(facepalm) entering a country without permission is the same as the physical, sexual assault of a woman? Nice try at faux-right wing feminism, you Faux News "journalist".

3. Undocumented is correct. They don't have papers or
documents to work, but they shouldn't be called illegal because they aren't. They committed an illegal action by crossing the border, but being here is not illegal.

5. Being in the US without the proper documentation
to stay in the US is not illegal? On what grounds are people being deported, then, if they're not in violation of any law?

6. The proper designation is
unauthorized alien as US immigration laws don't call them illegal, but being in the country illegally. Human rights organizations state that people cannot be designated as being illegal. Aliens are anyone in the country whether they are visiting under any variety of visas or in residence and are not violating the law until they get a job without documentation. It's gotten really sticky with all attention the Republicans are getting by firing up their base.

8. Thank you Cleita

Cleita is correct. The only law I can find on the subject deals ONLY describes the act of crossing the border. Doesn't get into people who are here without documentation.

Not saying undocumented persons cannot be deported, but, as Cleita pointed out, they are not "illegal". NO human being is illegal.

Here's a link to the only law I can find on this matter. Again, it only deals with the actual act of crossing the border:

{EDIT} And notice the law itself calls it "Improper entry" and not illegal entry.

9. Why not check what the government thinks,,,
Illegal Alien
A foreign national who (1) entered the United States without inspection or with fraudulent documentation or (2) after entering legally as a nonimmigrant, violated status and remained in the United States without authorization.

19. Well, they are not correct. It's called illegal immigration,
not illegal immigrants. This is something an immigration lawyer can challenge in court.

10. yes being here is illegal
you make no sense

they are here illegally

you could even say that crossing was a crime so they are actually criminal aliens

Illegal alien is the correct term. Undocumented alien would be someone who came here legally but who's paperwork was lost or destroyed.

I mean the level of irony that descendants of illegal immigrants who border jumped across the atlantic ocean would refer to descendants of fist people who've been on this land for thousands upon thousands of years as illegal immigrants is astonishing.

There, see how that works?

13. They are upping the game-they have to
It won't make white male votes count more but it will encourage donations to the RNC and GOP and it will keep the ratings up for the short term. They are reactionaries they have no long term goal other than misinforming.
