Terrifying prospect. I've been traveling the last few days and saw something very disturbing.
Billboards across the interstates.
Never saw anything like it and I really have no reference point here.
Billboard said something along the lines of "Taking a road trip?" Then gave a website to get an interstate passport.

What the hell is this????A passport for domestic travel?:scared:
Does anyone have any further information on this?

3. I don't know.
It was a state.gov address. I was driving without my bifocals on so I couldn't see the small print, but those phrases were large enough to see with my prescription sunglasses.

9. This really sounds like the sort of things that freepers spread via email forwards,
their primary way of disseminating information, usually which is false.

Anyone may put something on a billboard, but that does not make it legitimate or something of which to fear.

11. Some states out west are worried their driver's licenses
won't be adequate if their citizens get stopped in Arizona.

We had PSAs around here about that, probably because NM is one of the few places that will give driver's licenses to illegals, very easy to distinguish from the ones given to citizens.

15. I just Googled "interstate passport".
Edited on Thu Dec-30-10 12:04 AM by drm604
Every single link on the first page referred to something called an "equine interstate passport" (equine means horse). It's something to do with the interstate transport of horses, apparently related to some sort of veterinary certification.

18. It also may be a "trucker" thing. I know they have these
"passes" now where the trucks get weighed while they are driving so they don't have to keep stopping at weigh stations.
