high paid University of California execs threaten to sue unless their benefits are increased
note - rank and file UC employees have taken pay and benefit cuts

UC execs' demand for more benefits angers many

Gov.-elect Jerry Brown, state lawmakers and others minced few words Wednesday in condemning high-paid executives at the University of California who are threatening to sue UC unless it spends millions of dollars to increase their pensions.

"These executives seem very out of touch at a time when the state is contemplating billions of dollars in reductions that will affect people who are far less advantaged," Brown said.

Their demand comes as UC faces $21.6 billion in unfunded pension obligations and is reducing benefits for its workers.

--------------------

The executives also said the higher pensions are a necessary recruiting tool that will allow UC to remain competitive in hiring top talent.

Alumni and union leaders were not moved.

Attorney Geoff Van Loucks of Carmel said he was about to donate money to the Berkeley Law School but stopped when he read that Edley was among those demanding a higher pension.

"This is the kind of stuff that gives the university a bad name," he said. "I am just outraged."

1. When I worked at UCLA, I found the administrators
to be pretty dispensable. They really didn't do much to make the university run more smoothly. Let them go to the private sector and promote some of the clerical staff to those position, the ones who are actually doing the work.

And pisses off a lot Cal grads.

The next time the alumni association calls me with their hand out I'll remind me of this story.

If the university has enough dough to pay these douchebags ridiculous demands, they sure as hell don't need any contributions from me.
