Unemployment claims drop when unemployment offices are closed for holidays.

And less people ride the bus when it's not running.

BREAKING: Water is wet.

1. Thanks.
It's always so refreshing to see reality-based content return to DU.

10. Reality based content? Misinformation is more like it.

Initial claims (and virtually every other economic indicator) are seasonally adjusted.

This means the average for the last 30 years is factored in, to acts as a smoothing indicator.
Last time I checked the Holiday short week (between Christmas & New Years) has occured every single year in the last 30.

So if we closed the offices all the time
we could have 0% unemployment.

6. and the 388K putting in for firest time benefits are really happy that they are disappeared
By the propaganda propellers seeking to make a shitty continuing economy out as *not so bad*. And that doesn't even take into account the 99ers who were pretty much disappeared by this administration.

7. The claims dropped sharply in the week before Christmas,
a week when unemployment offices were open on a regular schedule. The sharp drop in claims was unexpected. The week between Christmas and New Years is a short week and claims are expected to drop because there will be fewer filing days.
