Has anyone noticed....?
The further we go to the middle, the further right the GOP goes???? Maybe it's time to hold strong... high percentages don't want cuts to medicare or medicare, or even social security.

1. Yes, that is always the way it is.
The right will always respond to every opportunity to move right.

Centrists, who are in love with some mythical, magical concept of the perfect middle will then respond my moving slightly to right, because, OMG, now they're slightly to the left, and that can't be good. It would be horrible to be perceived as a lefty!

So with the right and the center moving to the right, it becomes time to attack the left.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Their objective is to move the "center" & whole political spectrum to the right. And unfortunately, for the last 40 yrs they've succeeded.

4. The further we go to the middle?
The middle has long since passed us by. What we are fighting for now is to stay on the right and keep from moving off to fucking lala land.

You actually see signs of liberalism in Washington? All I see are a few bones thrown to keep us quiet. We live in a nation that sees that pile of crap called the HCR bill as a "victory". We live in a nation that kills civilians in unmanned drone attacks in a nation we aren't even supposed to be at war with. We are in the middle of the longest war in American history and we have no idea how to win or what "victory conditions" even are. We violate our own laws in order to "keep us safe". We are spied on, searched, listened to and monitored. We live in a nation that wants to hang a man for telling the truth.

We feed the wealthy and starve the poor. We pretend we have 10% unemployment when it's actually closer to 20%. We build guns, bombs, tanks and planes, we spend billions on weapons that don't even work but we can't afford pencils for schools. We shit on the weak and praise the strong, We reward physical prowess and denigrate intelligence. This nation is so fucking far to the right people don't even know what "left" is anymore.

17. I second that.
At my workplace, there are a lot of people from various countries. Those from European countries are amazed as what passes for the "left" in this country as they would be considerer hard-right in their countries. They're also rather stunned to find that many, many Americans are so politically either unaware or just plain apathetic. That would never fly where they came from.

Those that came here to escape a more repressive government will joke "I came here for this?!?" I tell them we're just trying to make them feel more at home. To some of them, their home countries are starting to look not so bad after all.

11. At least we know what left is!
It once stood for a dream and a chance to bring equality to all Americans. Now, it is a curseword used by multi-millionaire desk jockeys on zombie hoards of hatefilled followers.

He kept talking about all the "liberal" legislation that was passed, one of those being "Wall Street Reform". :eyes:

14. Yep. Anyone who calls being to the Right of Nixon and Reagan "The Middle"
is either very young and needs a bit of historical perspective, or is watching way too much TV.

9. The teabagger state and local workers who live around here don't care if there are cuts in SS
Edited on Fri Dec-31-10 05:34 PM by NNN0LHI
They have their own separate retirement program. SS is for those "other" people.

But suggest cutting property taxes to them once and watch them squirm.

dragged further and further to the right and the middle becomes more and more right instead of middle.

25. Yes, and it's time for blowback from the liberal progressive wing of the party.
We either pull the party back to the left or let go and let the whole shebang go slipping down the rabbit hole.

The GOP is seriously thinking of digging up Hitler to run against Obama in 2012.
The race is going to stink as a result.
