Recommendation: "Place of Execution"

A 2008 Masterpiece Theater production based on the novel by Val McDermid - spanning two episodes, totaling 134 minutes.

Wow! Wow! Wow! A murder mystery involving a documentary filmmaker whose source suddenly backs out. Flashbacks. Forensics. Family drama. A big, whopping twist of an ending with a finish that leaves the audience hanging.

This one was so very good.

4. I read the original novel, and in it, the main character was the retired policeman,

not the documentary filmmaker. In fact, there was no documentary filmmaker in the original book, nor did she have anything to do with the plot. The story was simply about the retired policeman going back to the village to investigate a case that had always bothered him.

I wonder if the scriptwriters thought that the filmmaker would resonate better with younger audiences.

I liked the film, but I thought the book was better, more focused.
