Polls are Gusts of Wind

Don't put faith in them. Just keep working toward the goal, no matter which candidate you prefer, always remembering the Democratic Party's Prime Directive in 2020: DUMP TRUMP

Thomas Friedman to Dems: Keep Pounding Home the Point

As the country embarks on only the third impeachment trial of a president in its history, there are many unique features about this moment, but one stands out for me: Never before have we had to confront a president who lies as he breathes and is backed by a political party and an entire cable TV-led ecosystem able and enthusiastic to create an alternative cognitive universe that propagates those lies on an unlimited scale.

How can the truth — that Donald Trump used taxpayer funds to try to force the president of Ukraine to sully the reputation of Joe Biden, a political rival — possibly break through this unique trifecta of a president without shame, backed by a party without spine, reinforced by a network without integrity?

There is only one way: Keep it simple.

Democrats need to just keep repeating over and over one question: “Why would an innocent man, and a jury interested in the truth, not want all the evidence out and all the witnesses to testify? Wouldn’t you if you were innocent?”

Hey, that's what the Republicans do: They settle on a talking point and, however untrue, however ridiculous, keep saying it over and over and over again. We're all familiar with the adage that lies become true via repetition, but we don't even have to come up with a lie, BECAUSE WHAT WE'RE SAYING IS THE TRUTH! All we need do is beat everyone---in Congress, the media, the general public---over the head, over and over, that what Trump did with Ukraine was criminal activity. As Friedman himself states later in the op-ed,

So keep cutting through {the bullshit and distractions} with that simple question: “Why would an innocent man not want all the evidence out and all the witnesses to testify? Wouldn’t you if you were innocent?” Rinse and repeat. Rinse and repeat.

'Technocratic placeholder'? Putin picks low-profile tax chief as Russian PM

Source: Reuters

JANUARY 15, 2020 / 4:20 PM

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Mikhail Mishustin, President Vladimir Putin’s surprise choice to become Russia’s prime minister, is a tax chief with almost no political profile who analysts say could be a “technocratic placeholder.”

The Kremlin-dominated lower house of parliament, which rarely opposes Putin on important issues, is due to decide whether to approve Mishustin on Thursday.

Mishustin, 53, has been the head of the Federal Tax Service since 2010 and has worked in government roles related to tax collection since the early days of his career.

He has won praise for improving tax collection processes and more than doubling tax revenues in the past decade, with 20.4 trillion roubles ($331.92 billion) collected in the first 11 months of last year.

The Shining: Novel was Great, Movie SUCKED!

Sorry to bother you at this late hour, but there's been yet another YouTube video "analyzing" this cinematic "masterpiece" posted just yesterday. I did not click on it. Nor will I tell you its title that you might search for it. But I have to vent my spleen here! Otherwise, I won't be able to sleep tonight.

The Shining is the most overrated horror movie I have ever seen! Stephen King's FANTASTIC novel was butchered and pissed on by Stanley Kubrick, the second-most-overrated director of my lifetime, surpassed only by David Lynch! SK's excuse for a horror film was more flaccid than Jack Torrance after he sees that he's making out with a corpse! This abortion on celluloid doesn't deserve analysis, but rather an ANAL CYST, which would be an honest assessment of what it truly is!

White House says U.S. has asked North Korea to resume talks

Source: Reuters

JANUARY 12, 2020 / 9:04 PM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - White House national security adviser Robert O’Brien said the United States had reached out to North Korea seeking to resume talks, according to an interview published on Sunday by Axios.

O’Brien also said it was a “positive” sign that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had not delivered on a warning of a “Christmas gift.” Some analysts had said that might be a sign Pyongyang was preparing a long-range missile test, while U.S. President Donald Trump said last month the gift “might be a beautiful vase.”

“We’ve reached out to the North Koreans and let them know that we would like to continue the negotiations in Stockholm that were last undertaken in early October,” O’Brien told the online news site on Friday. “We’ve been letting them know, through various channels, that we would like to get those back on track.”

A spokesman for the National Security Council did not immediately comment on Sunday.

DOJ inquiry tied to Clinton, touted by Trump winds down with no tangible results: report

Source: The Hill

BY REBECCA KLAR - 01/09/20 09:05 PM EST

A Department of Justice inquiry into Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation has effectively concluded without producing tangible results, The Washington Post reported Thursday.

The investigation has not formally ended and no official notice has been sent to the Justice Department or lawmakers, but the the U.S. attorney tapped in November 2017 to look into the concerns raised by President Trump and allies has largely finished his investigation, according to current and former law enforcement officials that spoke to the Post.

The investigation started after Trump and GOP allies in Congress raised concerns over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s ties to a Russian nuclear agency and the Clinton Foundation. Huber was tapped by then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions to look into the matters.

“We didn’t expect much of it, and neither did he,” one person familiar with the matter told the Post. “And as time went on, a lot of people just forgot about it.”

John Bolton Agrees To Testify At Trump Trial, Defying WH

Color me skeptical: now that Donnie's given Johnny the strike against Iran he's been jonesing for since forever, I have my doubts than Bolton is gonna say anything really negative about the Pumpkin.
