Schiff was born in Framingham, Massachusetts, the son of Edward and Sherrill Ann (Glovsky) Schiff.[2] He was raised in a Jewish family, and moved to Danville, California, during high school.[3] He graduated from Monte Vista High School[4] and received a political science degree from Stanford University and a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School.
After Harvard Law School, Schiff began working as a prosecutor in the Los Angeles branch of the U.S. Attorney's Office. While an assistant U.S. Attorney, he gained attention by prosecuting a case against Richard Miller, a former FBI agent convicted of "passing secret documents to the Soviet Union in exchange for a promised $65,000 in gold and cash."

(18,148 posts)I love Adam Schiff, but I think he's best where he is now. We need good people in Congress too.
On edit: I assume you are referring to the primaries. I would vote for Schiff in a general election, as I would any Democrat.

(4,131 posts)But we already have a lot of great candidates and he is a lion in the House. I hope he keeps taking Trump to task for as long as he needs to.

(13,126 posts)I'd vote 4 him in a heartbeat but he's best defending us and investigating Repugs for now.

(13,416 posts)I'm worried too many ppl running for office means the work won't get done in the Congress...

(36,536 posts)I would totally support him running for Senate when Feinstein retires in 2024, but that's way out there.

(10,947 posts)We need him in the House to finish the investigations as soberly and as non-political as possible.

(37,648 posts)If he could wrap it up and then campaign for 2020, I'd be there. But I don't think this will be wrapped up this year, or not soon enough for him to enter the race.

(13,294 posts)The minute someone is noticed for being very good at his/her job in government, people get fixated on the idea that this person should run for President. This distorts the entire structure of our government. We need great people (or just honest intelligent people) in all the branches government, at all levels. President is just one function in the structure. Our democracy also needs great people in the branches of government that oversee and check the President.
In in my mind Elizabeth Warren is a good example of this. She was shaping up to be a superb Senator who would leave a lasting legacy for our country. It was a role perfect for her and a place where she could exercise her powers to the fullest. Running for President is just the opposite.

(35,441 posts)His current work is too important
he can't be distracted campaigning when we have a two year backlog of investigations into white house corruption that has piled up due to GOP abdication of Constitutional duties.

(11,949 posts)If he continues on the path he is on I could see him as a great candidate in 10 years.
Of all of our representatives I get a sense of burning righteous indignation and boiling anger like from none other.
What he has powerlessly watched for 2 years has really built up.
Guess what? He aint powerless anymore!

(18,664 posts)He would probably make a great president but getting to the bottom of Trump's crimes is the most important thing right now.
If Trump is not fully exposed by the House he may win again in 2020.
If he had to spend his time campaigning he wouldn't have time to investigate Trump throughly.
So I wouldn't want him to run in 2020. .

(91,397 posts)...comes with a magic wand. It does not. We desperately need the House, all hands on deck. We desperately need to regain the Senate. We have quite a squad of Dems already running for POTUS, and people like Schiff should be left alone to do their jobs.

(63,221 posts)right now. Maybe at some point in the future, but not for 2020. He is brilliant in his current role.

(14,390 posts)But I dont think he would win in a crowded, contested primary. Even if he did, I dont know that he would beat Trump, given the dumbing down of our culture. If Trump were out of the picture and we had a sane opposition party, Schiff would be great.
But the bottom line is, Schiff is busy right now and his work is crucial to our nation, so he should keep doing what hes doing for this cycle.

(4,622 posts)In the future (if we survive Trump and the complicit Republicans) perhaps Attorney General or Supreme Court Justice. I would have no problem voting for him if he ran for President.
