"SNIP......

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) proposed several key concessions to the bloc of Republicans opposing him for speaker, including allowing just one member to call for a vote to oust the speaker, CNN reports.

In addition, he proposed allowing more members of the House Freedom Caucus to serve on the powerful Rules Committee.

Despite these concessions, McCarthy is still likely short of the 218 votes he needs to become speaker.

people are bending McCarthy to their will. Not that it was hard to bend McCarthy. He has no principles, and he really wants that SOH title.

But yeah, in a super majority on the House Rules Committee? They'll have the power to disrupt/effectively kill all legislation presented in the House by those they don't like. As well as the power to make the crazy shit they put forward easier to pass.

The first time he does something one of the crazies doesn't like there's a new vote.

Why even become Speaker under that scenario?

Dude has no dignity, just desperation.

10. It would not be like these votes.

It would be a vote to remove the Speaker. That vote would require 218 votes. So it would not happen.

But as a practical matter it would not happen. Every single congressperson wants things. For themselves, for their district, favors for various people and groups. Anyone doing things like harassing meaningless votes would be on the outs and get nothing. They don't want that.

MTG was quite happy to not be on a committee. And if she's on one it will have zero to do with getting something for her district.

The nutter caucus isn't your normal representative.

17. You think they'd stop at one vote?

They'd call it everyday and stop anything else from happening until he left.

You're assigning reason and logic to people who don't care about such things.
