That's what Rachel Maddow said last night. What she didn't say was that many were replaced by Magats.
According to CNN investigations, the thousands of threats are rarely prosecuted. In all fairness to DOJ, many can't be prosecuted because we do not have adequate laws, we do not have laws against hate speech. The threats have only gotten worse since 2021. Get ready on election day when several of those Magat election officials refuse to certify the vote in Democratic districts.

(6,430 posts)I think about my old neighbor who manned our local polling site for years. She knew lots of us by sight and would greet us by name, get our signatures and we'd be on our way.
Now, after 10 years of mail-in ballots, we have fewer polling sites (but lots of drop boxes) and voting has lost a bit of it's local touch.
But whenever I hear about election workers being attacked, all I can visualize is my old neighbor...

(21,813 posts)I live in a small town and know my election workers. My town is full of Magats but the election workers were Democrats. When I went to vote for Hillary a Magat lady was in line ahead of me, when it was my turn I said to the election worker, how can a woman vote for Trump? She just responded, really.

(11,579 posts)In Trumbull County our Board of elections is mostly run by Republicans.
I am a precinct committee person, and for years the precinct committee person always got to pack who they wanted to work in their polling district.
That all changed this year.
And even our Democratic Chair leaders had a meeting with them over this and got buffaloed.
Hell, our headquarters is owned by a Republican in a rundown Plaza. No one's allowed to park out front. We have to park in the back where there's potholes as big enough to fall into.
Lots of older workers don't want to donate their time and have to park in the back because the guy that owns the building says so.
Why are our chair people not doing something about this and getting us out of that building? Why? Because it's free from a fake Democrat who got political favors?
We are fake Democrats all over Trumbull county holding positions. The one owns a fancy restaurant with his mother and brother why can't we have our meetings there if he's such a great Democrat?
Our headquarters needed to be centrally located. Like in the downtown area where it used to be.
Our chairman complains it's free. I say we need to get out of that building and don't know how we're supposed to.
