House quickly kills Marjorie Taylor Greene's effort to oust Speaker Johnson
Source: ABC News
Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Wednesday officially triggered a vote on her motion to remove House Speaker Mike Johnson, but within minutes it was overwhelmingly rejected.
There were audible boos from lawmakers in the chamber as Greene spoke at length about her grievances with Johnson as she called for a vote.
The Georgia congresswoman, flanked by co-sponsor GOP Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, asserted Johnson has "not lived up to a single one" of the promises he made the Republican conference after he was elected to the top post in October.
"By passing the Democrats' agenda and handcuffing the Republicans' ability and influence legislation, our elected Republican Speaker Mike Johnson has aided and abetted the Democrats and the Biden administration in destroying our country," Greene said.

Now that Greene has put the process in motion, the House will have to consider the issue within two legislative days. House GOP leaders are expected to quickly take up and move to kill Greenes motion, which could happen as soon as today.
A floor vote to oust Johnson would require a majority to succeed, but a motion to table or kill the resolution is expected to be offered and voted on first.
In the wake of Johnsons push to pass a major foreign aid package over the objections of hardline conservatives, House Democratic leadership announced that Democrats would help Johnson keep his job by voting to table if the issue arose.
A failed vote will give Johnson an opportunity to argue that it is time to move on from the issue. But support from Democrats will open Johnson up to even more criticism from his right flank.

(15,055 posts)The house sits at 217 r to 213 d.
With green voting yay, that makes it 214 yay, 216 nay. If one more flips, that makes it 215 to 215.
After that, the yays win. Any Republicans don't show up or vote present, the yays get closer.
It's up to the dems.

(130,326 posts)The House quickly moved to hold a vote on a motion to table, or effectively kill, Greene's effort to oust Johnson.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise rose to request the vote on tabling Greene's resolution, which passed with overwhelming bipartisan support. The final vote to dismiss of Greene's motion was 359-43 with seven lawmakers voting present.

(1,879 posts)but I am confused. Didn't Johnson agree to her terms to try and pull crap to get their master Donny off the hook for all his crimes yesterday? Why did she call for his ouster today then?
I hope the Democrats got some concessions from him for their votes like not interfering in the court cases against tfg and to quit trying to manufacture reasons to impeach President Biden.
The crooked Republican judges are already bending over every which way they can to get their orange lord and master off anyway.

(4,381 posts)have a meeting with Johnson? I thought I heard on a radio report while driving that the meeting lasted about 3 hours. The reporter made it sound as though they were inching toward some sort of reconciliation. Apparently not, let the show continue!!

(18,713 posts)It could be that she introduced the vacate just because she could.
It's a show of power, something she's obviously hungry for. Republicans should be kicking themselves in the ass for instituting the rule that anyone can bring about a vote to vacate.
