NYT tries to explain MSNBC

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Lasher (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: NYT

Even Comcast, NBC’s corporate owner, which is loath to intervene in news coverage, took the rare step of conveying its concern to MSNBC’s leaders when some hosts and guests criticized Israel as the Hamas attack was unfolding on Oct. 7, according to three people with knowledge of the discussions. An abrupt course correction to that coverage followed.

This account of the tensions roiling NBC and its corporate overseers is based on interviews with more than two dozen people with knowledge of the company’s inner workings, almost all of whom insisted on anonymity to share details of internal discussions.

NBC declined to make its top executives available for interviews. The chairman of the NBCUniversal News Group, Cesar Conde, has said he wants his division — which encompasses MSNBC, CNBC, a digital streaming service, Telemundo and journalistic stalwarts like “Nightly News,” “Meet the Press” and “Today” — to be a big tent.

Perhaps this explains some hosts commentary.
The turmoil at appeasing conservatives not getting their pablum for ratings.

But then the analysis ignores that a bunch of the hosts & contributors on MSNBC are Republicans or former (and/or anti-45) Republicans (Morning Schmo, Nicole, Michael Steele, David Jolly, George Conway, etc).

to accommodate the conservative dollar than the truth. The comments reveal my contention, the truth is not as important as the eyes.

Paragraphs One thru Four show the leftward tilt of the programming, not a rightward tilt at all. And we see this with our own eyes.

MSNBC placed a big bet on becoming comfort TV for liberals. Then it doubled down.

Time slots on the cable network once devoted to news programming are now occupied by Trump-bashing opinion hosts. The channel has become a landing spot for high-profile alumni of President Biden’s administration like Jen Psaki, who went from hosting White House press briefings to hosting her own show. On Super Tuesday, when producers aired a portion of a live speech by former President Donald J. Trump, Rachel Maddow chastised her bosses on the air.

The moves have been a hit with viewers. MSNBC has leapfrogged past its erstwhile rival CNN in the ratings and has seen viewership rise over the past year, securing second place in cable news behind the perennial leader, Fox News.

But MSNBC’s success has had unintended consequences for its parent company, NBC, an original Big Three broadcaster that still strives to appeal to a mass American audience.

NBC’s traditional political journalists have cycled between rancor and resignation that the cable network’s partisanship — a regular target of Mr. Trump — will color perceptions of their straight news reporting. Local NBC stations between the coasts have demanded, again and again, that executives in New York do more to preserve NBC’s nonpartisan brand, lest MSNBC’s blue-state bent alienate their red-state viewers.

By the way, cachukis, thanks for the useable link!

Didn't think they were the most relevant, but working on my phone left me fearful that I would hit wrong button and lose it all.

I found the article to be an expose, possibly, for all the criticisms directed at MSNBC hosts bringing on Republicans.
There are a lot of people here who are not fond of ideas outside their world view.
We are lucky to have the expertise of so many analysts on this channel.

I too want the world to unfold as I wish, but the other side has some truth in their sales pitch.

Luckily, we have each other to get to the bottom of things.
Keep at it.

Those traitor frauds posing as political journalists wouldn't know straight reporting if it jumped up and beat them senseless. Straight reporting wouldn't attempt that idiotic false balance equating the GQP's fascist rot with the Democrats' liberal reality.

And yet peddling that false balance lie is the #1 form of journalism the traitor media pukes up.

enter into these BigShot's plans. 'Bothsiderism' sans any determination of what is true and what is not--is mere propaganda distribution.

But, I can see why Katy Tur (along with her biased RW meme colleagues, Andrea Mitchell, and to some extent, Chris Jansing) continue to spew their talking points, while rudely interrupting their expert guests (especially Tur). One has to think they are getting an "earful from viewers" but still they remain. Likewise, why Ari Melber insists on bringing on the lowest of the low among MAGA figures--thereby giving him some "cover," I suppose.

Note the subject of the news coverage that led to the "correction".

a curtain of the business side to the First Ammendment.
The idea of objectivity is a relatively new concern to news organizations.
We, as a country, are an experiment in contending with human nature.
We have all the players in the Angels vs the Devils continuum.
Bad news sells papers and the corruption in all of us seeks examples of heroism in the corruption.
Jessie James was a bad guy good for Hollywood. Al Capone is the standard to be outdone by trump.

Just think, the streaming programs captivating the world, are outleagued by reality. The trump saga is everyday soap opera and almost as mundane as the Yankees Red Sox to the competition for screen time.

The focus is gone. We can't focus for long.
You mean the Gaza atrocities. War is hell.
We all seek a rest, except the bailers who know if they stop, they won't have to.
