Arab League Calls for U.N. Peacekeepers in Gaza and the West Bank
Source: New York Times
The Arab League called on Thursday for a United Nations peacekeeping force to be deployed in the Gaza Strip and the Israeli-occupied West Bank until a two-state solution can be negotiated, in a statement that also called for the U.N. Security Council to set a time limit for that political process.

There first has to be peace to keep, Mr. Haq said. We dont go into active combat, and parties themselves have to agree on allowing the presence of peacekeepers. We dont go in as an enemy force or an occupying force.

(2,509 posts)That UN intervention was the only way to stop the cycle of violence. But I dont think we have the will; the rabid, religionuts (who think that the Jews have to rebuild the temple, so as to initiate Armageddon and the rapture), have enough influence to kill it from our end. Theyre pretty much why weve been Israel, über Alles* all these years.
*So no one accuses me of saying Israel over allies, über Alles is German and translates as above all.

(19,197 posts)Would this truly be a peacekeeping force or a force to keep Israel from responding to attacks?
The UN would allow and protect aid into Gaza also curtail the illegal actions of West Bank settlers, as one would expect a peacekeeping force to do, but will they lift a finger when rockets fly into Israel? I never see that addressed.
