If you’re furious with @triciacotham now, just wait until she votes to dismantle public education in North Carolina, and then goes back to being a lobbyist for charter schools.

That was always the plan. I’m guessing it started when she took over the AAC.*

https://twitter.com/kelly4NC/status/1658861098664116226
https://www.wfae.org/education/2023-04-25/ncs-new-voucher-plan-could-upend-states-approach-to-public-education

She wants to weaken State Board of Education oversight of charter schools and give them tax payer money for property purchases and building renovations. And that’s what she’ll do before she leaves office.

Back in 2016, as she was preparing to leave the legislature, she was one of five Democrats to vote for a GOP bill that would allows a charter school management company to take over low-performing schools.

AAC was formed the following year. Cotham became President the year after.

AAC was hired by the State Board of Education to manage the low-performing school in the Robeson County town of Rowland.

They were hired despite the fact that they had little to no experience turning around low-performing schools or working with at-risk children.

Under Cotham’s leadership , the AAC failed to meet its contractual obligations in running Southside-Ashpole Elementary, to the detriment of its students.

Data showed students had made few academic gains. The school received a state performance grade of “F”.

This was the plan since Cotham returned to politics - weaken the public schools and promote charter schools. She ran as a Democrat and campaigned to protect access to abortion, but that was just a lie. She always planned to betray the people she represents.

Her move to the GOP was orchestrated from the start. It was not opportunistic. It was calculated. She never planned to run for re-election. She will go back to lobbying for charter schools and she’ll get a huge bonus for passing the abortion ban.

In January, before she switched parties, Tricia Cotham was one of the few Democrats who received top committee positions.

Speaker Tim Moore appointed her as chair of the K-12 education committee.

What better way to dismantle public education in NC?

https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nc/charlotte/politics/2023/01/17/moore-reveals-new-north-carolina-house-committee-leaders

In this video of @triciacotham avoiding questions - she doesn’t seem to have the smug, self righteous arrogance to lead this deception. I suspect someone’s pulling her strings.

She’s a hypocrite who lied and betrayed NC voters.

But she’s not alone,
https://twitter.com/kelly4NC/status/1659250598007406615

I’m guessing it goes back to John Bryan. He’s been using his billions to manipulate NC politics for years.

@triciacotham was a lobbyist for Bryan’s TeamCFA when she worked at McGuire Woods. Then she replaced Tom Holten at AAC.

It’s all about the money.

https://dianeravitch.net/2019/10/10/north-carolina-a-sad-bedtime-story-about-a-failed-state-takeover/

@LindsayWagnerNC did a great job of following the money trail back in 2015

That was just about the time Cotham decided not to run for re-election.

https://ncnewsline.com/2015/08/13/out-of-state-money-behind-secret-plan-to-fund-charter-takeover-of-ncs-worst-performing-schools/

And let’s not forget when she voted to gerrymander the N.C. Board of Education and hand it to Republicans.

This was February 7, a month after she assumed office (and months before she finally came clean about switching parties)

Bakhmut..then and now...

This is why President Zelenskyy says Bakhmut "is only in our hearts." Which was incorrectly interpreted to mean that Russia has complete control over it.

The UA has most definitely not surrendered it and Russian hasn't taken complete control there either.

If the Russians do prevail, after the longest battle in Ukraine, they will only have a completely ruined place to show for it.

Then

And now...

Bakhmut was known for its underground and cave placed wineries and so much more.

Biden can...should...ignore the GOP's debt suicide attempt

THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY CONTRIBUTORS ARE THEIR OWN AND NOT THE VIEW OF THE HILL

Biden can, and should, ignore the GOP’s debt suicide attempt

BY ROBERT HOCKETT* AND LAURENCE TRIBE, OPINION CONTRIBUTORS - 05/18/23 9:00 AM ET

Conservative commentators have undertaken to pen apologetics for radicals. The subject? Our latest adventure in Republican-threatened financial suicide.

The results are surprising. And because these are likely the best spokespeople Republican extortionists will find, the attempted arguments call for engagement.

Take first, then, this remarkable would-be assurance: A minority of “House Republicans’ insistence on negotiations [about raising the debt ceiling] is not hostage taking,” but, “it is the ordinary stuff of politics.”

It is hard to fathom how anyone not either blissfully or willfully unaware of American budgetary history since 1974, not to say contract law and the U.S. Constitution, could so much as suggest such a thing.

For one thing, threatening default upon debt incurred by your own — that is Congress’s own — already legislated current budget in order to gain leverage you don’t democratically have over next year’s budget is anything but “ordinary.” It is overtly threatening the contract rights of literally millions of innocent people, not to mention our own Constitution and prior budget legislation. And it is doing so simply to get your way when you cannot convince your congressional colleagues of the merits of your own budgetary druthers.

'A gamechanger': this simple device could help fight the war on abortion rights in the US

Only a tiny fraction of primary care physicians provide abortions. Dr Joan Fleischman wants to offset the rightwing war on reproductive rights by training many more of them

by Poppy Noor

Sarah Blesener/The Guardian

Tue 18 Apr 2023 02.00 EDT

Joan Fleischman has always had people flying in from across the world to her private abortion practice in Manhattan. In the two decades her clinic has been open, she has seen clients from places such as Ireland, the Bahamas and Mexico, who couldn’t get abortions in their home countries. In the past year, that has changed. Since the US federal right to abortion was overturned in June last year, she is now more likely to see patients flying in from her own country.

Often they are from Texas, sometimes Ohio, or Florida. Some with links to the city, others with none.

After years of providing abortion care, Fleischman, 60, still finds these trips shocking. “Usually, if somebody needs unusual medical care, they are willing to fly around the world for it – like for advanced neurosurgery or something. It’s always struck me as incredible that people are flying to me for the most simple procedure.”

There’s a reason people fly to see Fleischman. She provides abortions through manual uterine aspiration – using a small, hand-held device to remove pregnancy tissue. The device is gentle enough that the tissue often comes out almost completely intact. It is a quick and discreet procedure where a patient might be in and out of the door in less than an hour.

Fleischman is a co-founder of the MYA Network, a network of primary care clinics and clinicians in 16 states. They believe the tool could be radical in the hands of more primary care clinicians – clinicians they are amping up to train.

Surgical Techniques for First-Trimester Abortion

The term “vacuum curettage” is used interchangeably with “uterine aspiration” or “vacuum aspiration”; all refer to evacuation of the uterus by suction, regardless of the source of the suction. Manual vacuum aspiration is the term commonly applied to uterine evacuation using a hand-held syringe as the source of the vacuum. "Menstrual regulation" refers to surgical or medical treatment to "bring on" a late menstrual period without first doing a pregnancy test, and is an important means for providing safe services in countries that allow menstrual regulation, but do not allow legal abortion.

Lizzo with lyrics..

/

It's bad bitch o'clock, yeah, it's thick-thirty
I've been through a lot but I'm still flirty (okay)
Is everybody back up in the buildin'?
It's been a minute, tell me how you're healin'
'Cause I'm about to get into my feelings
How you feelin'? How you feel right now?
Oh, I've been so down and under pressure
I'm way too fine to be this stressed, yeah
Oh, I'm not the girl I was or used to be
Uh, bitch, I might be better
Turn up the music, turn down the lights
I got a feelin' I'm gon' be alright
Okay (okay), alright
It's about damn time (time)
Turn up the music, let's celebrate (alright)
I got a feelin' I'm gon' be okay
Okay (okay), alright
It's about damn time
In a minute I'ma need a sentimental
Man or woman to pump me up
Feeling fussy, walkin' in my Balenci-ussy's
Tryna bring out the fabulous
'Cause I give a fuck way too much
I'ma need like two shots in my cup
One to get up, one to get down
Mm, that's how I feel right now
Oh, I've been so down and under pressure
I'm way too fine to be this stressed, yeah
Oh, I'm not the girl I was or used to be
Uh, bitch, I might be better
Turn up the music, turn down the lights
I got a feelin' I'm gon' be alright
Okay (okay), alright
It's about damn time (time)
Turn up the music, let's celebrate (alright)
I got a feelin' I'm gon' be okay
Okay (okay), alright
It's about damn time
Bitch
'Cause, uh, you know that time it is, uh
I'm comin' out tonight, I'm comin' out tonight (uh-huh)
I'm comin' out tonight, I'm comin' out tonight (woo)
I'm comin' out tonight, I'm comin' out tonight
Okay (okay), alright (alright)
It's about damn time
I'm comin' out tonight, (let's go) I'm comin' out tonight (comin' out tonight)
I'm comin' out tonight, I'm comin' out tonight (woo)
I'm comin' out tonight, I'm comin' out tonight (comin' out tonight)
Okay (okay), alright
It's about damn time
Oh
Bitch
Yeah, yeah
It's about damn time
