29. I read a lot of Xitter posts about it when it happened.

Apparently a unit consisting mostly of Buryats got shelled, and he ran to the area to film for his "reporting". They didn't know who he was, but could tell that he had an American accent so assumed he was a spy and captured him.

Reports vary, but apparently he was beaten, tortured, and possibly gang raped; which I guess is pretty standard treatment for russia's prisoners.

They apparently decided they needed to get rid of him once they realized their mistake. His wife made quite a stink while she was searching for him, apparently not completely naive about the proclivities of her country's military forces.

It took awhile to find his remains, and I believe he was only identifiable by DNA.

Kind of an object lesson in karma.
