By the time I got to Vietnam in 1970, Dick Rutan was a legend. Rutan's account of the death of General Robert Worley, who was flying an RF-4C as "Strobe 01," is one of the most riveting and poignant war stories I've ever heard. Rutan's story is in Don Shepperd's book "Misty: First Person Stories of the F-100 Fast FACs in the Vietnam War."

Dick Rutan, a true American hero: RIP, sir.
