29. Narcissism is rampant amongst MDs

They get off to all the rewards of being a doctor--people seeing them as being god-like, and the high pay affirms their own sense of superiority. It's an incredibly validating profession for them.

Psychopathy is especially prevalent in surgeons. They are the most likely of face-forward medical specialties to demonstrate terrible bedside manners. Psychopaths would also be more likely to have no problems with cutting into people day after day. Both of these traits derive from the lack of empathy notorious in psychopaths.

This isn't to say that all MDs and surgeons are that way...only that a shocking number of them are.
