Still trying to find a transcript
of an interview Poppy Bush gave circa 1992, in which he made a comment to the effect that 'if the American people knew what we had really done with Iran/Contra, they'd chase us down the street and lynch us.' I can find references to it, but can't find the thing itself. Since junior might be getting ready for a replay on the pardon end of that story, I'm hoping that somebody somewhere will have it archived. Thanks in advance!

The original interview article is kept at the University of Missouri.

Followed the quote to a few places that gave me more information.

"If the people were to ever find out what we have done, we would be chased down the streets and lynched."

President George H.W. Bush, quoted by Sarah McClendon (White House Reporter) in her June 1992 Newsletter.

----------------

“George Bush, what will the people do if they ever find out the truth about Iraq-gate and Iran contra?

‘Sarah, if the American people ever find out what we have done (including the orchestration of September 11, the murder of JFK, Jr, the destruction of New Orleans and this Constitutional Republic), they will chase us down the streets and lynch us.'”

—From a June, 1992 exclusive and published interview granted by President George H. W. Bush
to Sarah McClendon, the grand dame of the White House press corps at the time.

Here's where it is located----->

6. Not sure
that they'll be able to help. There's a fee involved (small, but my SS check doesn't cover everything as it is); also a form that requires stating which school I'm with (none for a long time now). Just glancing through what is available via their online page(going by dates of documents), said transcript might not be there.

Interesting, though; I went back online to try again and found a notation in a Wikipedia entry that briefly noted the quote as being apocryphal, that no one had yet been able to provide it in context. Since it's not difficult for anyone to go onto Wikipedia to add or subtract information (or disinformation, for that matter), I'll tuck their comment away with the proverbial grain of salt.

Also interesting to note that since my first efforts a couple of years ago, the number and tone of articles referencing the quote has changed; before, a number of the links led to the infamous "no such page was found," while many of the current links are for sites that some would classify as belonging to "the fringe."

All of which, in the present political climate, serves to suggest that continued searching is warranted. So, I shall continue.

7. Maybe you could post in the MO State Forum and see if anyone works/teaches at MO Univ.?
There seem to be a lot of professors here at DU.

Maybe one of them can get their hands on a copy?

5. I started out explaining what I remembered of Iran-Contra to my daughter,
and once I started laying it all out, I couldn't figure out why these guys didn't all go to jail. I mean, Reagen orchestrated the release of the hostages ot coincide with his inauguration. US troops died trying to get those people out, and Reagan's people made sure they stayed in longer to make their guy look good!
