Florida student openly admits to being 'anti-Jewish' at panel event

An exclusive video from a student senate meeting calling at Florida State University, in which a student speaker admits to being “anti-Jewish,” was published by Israel War Room this week. The video clip, which was taken in February but only just released, shows a panel of six students debating whether a ceasefire motion should be passed.

The short clip shows the student saying, "And every single protest that we have, our actions have had counter-protesters, and there is never any backlash and never police protecting us. In fact, our police are directly protecting counter-protesters even at our events.”

“So I want to ask you all, is Palestinian life not worth mourning? And we, as Arab, Palestinian, Muslim, and anti-Jewish students, are we not worth protecting?”

Semitic used in a racial sense comes from the Göttingen school of history in the 1770s.

This group of historians played an important role in creating a scientific basis for historical research,[5] and were also responsible for coining two fundamental groups of terminologies in scientific racism:

Blumenbach and Meiners's color terminology for race: Caucasian or white race; Mongolian or yellow race; Malayan or brown race; Negroid or black race; and American or red race;[6

]Gatterer, Schlözer and Eichhorn's Biblical terminology for race: Semitic, Hamitic and Japhetic.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%B6ttingen_school_of_history

Further development of their theories gave us a refined term for the best of the Japhetic people, the Aryans.

Are you sure you want to use their definition of Semitic as a race?

Race is a social construct used to group people. Race was constructed as a hierarchal human-grouping system, generating racial classifications to identify, distinguish and marginalize some groups across nations, regions and the world. Race divides human populations into groups often based on physical appearance, social factors and cultural backgrounds.

Therefore definitions for race cannot be "scientific".

The "racial" definitions were pseudoscientific terms created to justify racism. The argument that antisemitic applies to all Middle Eastern people is using their pseudoscience definition. It (antisemitism) applies to Jews alone.

The term antisemitic was coined to soften the previous term used in Germany, Judenhass "Jew hate"

And the realities of how the group being discriminated against by their country are being dismissed as "nothing because it is not real anyways".

My lesson learned at DU (search Trayvon Martin, black lives matter, Jordan Davis and add the word gun) -there are spirit snipers everywhere.

I know you are writing The Truth, you know you are writing The Truth and we both are bearing witness to the Dominant Culture's game. It never changes.

If it helps folks to sleep at night to dismiss the reality now - let them. The Dominant Culture is going to radically change in short order. Get back them in 20 years - when all of a sudden - just like that . . . it matters to them.

It hurts my soul to see you pulled down into that mire.

But it was very, very real to most people in the not so distant past (and still real to many at present). If you read about the history of the Holocaust, for example, it comes up over and over again, because in Hitler's ideology, "race" was a very real thing, and it was considered scientific by many (not just Nazis) at the time.

You don't have to believe that race is a valid, scientific concept yourself to recognize that most people used to believe it was or to appreciate the powerful effect that concept has had in human history.

And I don't mean just n terms of Nazi Germany. Look at the history of the mistreatment of indigenous peoples in the U.S., as well as the system of chattel slavery of people of African descent. Race was the basis for both of those things.

I could go on and on, but I'll stop here and just leave you with this: No matter what we as educated westerners may think of the term "race," to discount this concept's profound influence on human history just because it's "unscientific" would be dangerously disingenuous.

When was the last time you've heard of "antisemitic" being applied to anyone other than the Jews? Or antisemites being referred to as Arab haters?

Let's do an SAT question, just for fun:

Semitic is to antisemitic as septic is to ___________________

a) antiseptic
b) pretty
c) tall
d) none of the above

If you answered a), you get an F

There are a lot of cute word games being played here lately. Elementary school level taunting is the last refuge for people who know they don't really have a valid argument. So they revert to sniggers and sneers.

I'm seeing a lot of primitive behavior here lately.

The term Semite, which was first used in 1781 to define languages related to Hebrew, initially referred to people of Near East origin. The word Semite is derived from the name Shem, the son of Noah. Abraham was a descendant of Shem. While there are varying groups who can be termed Semitic, antisemitism is specifically the hatred and persecution of Jews.

Source: https://njop.org/the-origin-of-word-anti-semitism/

The word antisemitism means prejudice against or hatred of Jews. The Holocaust, the state-sponsored persecution and murder of European Jews by Nazi Germany and its collaborators between 1933 and 1945, is history’s most extreme example of antisemitism.

In 1879, German journalist Wilhelm Marr originated the term antisemitism, denoting the hatred of Jews, and also hatred of various liberal, cosmopolitan, and international political trends of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries often associated with Jews. The trends under attack included equal civil rights, constitutional democracy, free trade, socialism, finance capitalism, and pacifism.
