| Are Republicans born obnoxious or is it learned behavior? |
|
I marched with the Theresa Daly group in the Burnsville Fire Muster parade today. There were these three late teens male types that stood on the sidewalk holding signs that said "Students for Kline", "Familes for Kline", catcalling while we passed. They'd wait until our group had passed and then run up ahead where they'd do their act again. I finally got mad at one and told him he almost made me wish the Repukes would win this year so I'd have the satisfaction of knowing he would be drafted. He looked like he had no clue (probably didn't) about what I meant.
Meanwhile, the parade organizers had cleverly put Kline's parade group right behind Theresa's. They had a vehicle with them that blasted military band music along the whole parade route. If only I had had some tacks with me to spread in the road.

that goes along with a tendency to be a repug. Common characteristics are extreme selfish behavior and simplistic thought processes.

| 1. pick up the application for the U.S. Army at your local recruiting center |
|
and the recruiter's cards...give them to those reTHUGLican young bush* brownshirts...usually, they are stunned and they shut up...
added bonus....if you get their names and phones/emails, give that to the Army recruiters....remember Michael Moore's movie, where the recruiters followed the young people around....
well, send them off to recruit some chickhawks out of the bush* brownshirts....it'll get them off the streets and give them somewhere to funnel their violence....

| 2. My brothers had two obnoxious friends who were brothers |
|
I don't know why my brothers liked these guys, but they were sneaky and bratty, and the younger one had ascary intensity about him.
The older one became a raving fundamentalist who raised his home-schooled kids in an atmosphere like Marine boot camp. He taught his kids that their great-grandparents were going to hell because they hadn't been rebaptized as adults, and the kids would cry and beg the great-grandparents to get rebaptized.
The younger one became an attorney for right-wing political organizations. He still sends my brothers a Christmas letter, and I've seen it. It's full of statements like, "Thank God we have a good Christian man like George Bush in charge of this country in these dangerous times."
So yes, I am not surprised that these two guys turned into nasty rightwing types.

since humans aren't inherently anything. But the things that people can learn to do are appalling.
Tacks would have been nice. Having some horses in your parade would have been even better.

| 4. Hard to say. I have a brother who's 10 years older than I; major Freeper |
|
I am sad to say. We are from different biological families (both adopted, different bio parents) but raised, natch, by the same adoptive parents. With us I think the age gap played a role; he was a teen off doing his own thing during the years (early 60s to early 70s) when I was little, and my parents were taking me to civil rights marches, and sit-ins, and occupying buildings, and peace marches, etc etc etc. And he was not around for that. My dad worked at a small church college, and we had many people from other countries/cultures in our home on a regular basis. I was little; I was captive! He was older and more independent, and absent. So I was exposed to more events and people and languages and viewpoints and voices, and I think it made a huge difference. I love my brother, but I really really hate his politics and it's hard to spend much time around him. Money, money, money. That's all he seems to give a shit about. I know he loves his wife and his family and all, but the only thing I really hear him talk about is money, and bitch about how high his taxes are. *sigh* Wish he'd learn to appreciate what he has LEFT....he pays more in taxes than most people make in a year, and to him, that's a very bad thing.
