Just wish they'd stop trying to claim he's either progressive or liberal. He's a centrist, virtually defines himself that way, and strategically avoids the label of liberal.

| 2. Stop suppressing dissent! |
|
The heroic dissenters are merely standing up for the principles that the blind, kool-aid drinking, cheerleading O team are trying to squash, violently as it were, like Nazis. Really like NAZIS!!! You are attempting to VIOLENTLY suppress their freedom of being a dissenting dissenter, who dissents and goes against the grain, swims against the current, doesn't go along with the herd, abjures groupthink of all kind, and generally rebels against authority!!! They are heroes of dissent, just like that Chinese person who stood before the tanks. Yes, they are JUST LIKE THAT PERSON!!!! Why would you throw your lot in with NAZI kool-aid drinking cheerleader O Team dissenter-suppressors rather than joining the heroic dissenting resistance? Is it because you're really a weaker person than the glorious dissenting dissentors? It may well be!!!

| 55. He didn't reform health care |
|
He reformed health insurance. And he did it by enacting the kind of legislative details against which he campaigned. There is nothing in the liberal agenda about mandated health insurance or cadillac taxes. Even HE explained that this was highly similar to the proposals from 1995, written by the GOP as a response to "Hillary Care". There is nothing liberal about a health insurance bill that admits right up front that when it is fully enforced, there will STILL be 25 million uninsured people in this country.
I'll give ya student loan reform, although I'd hardly call that any part of a core "liberal agenda". Just because it isn't right wing doesn't mean it's "liberal".
I don't really understand this desire of the Obama supporters to label him as either liberal or progressive. He is neither, nor wants to be labeled as such. If you enjoy his work so much, embrace and defend it for what it is. It doesn't serve you, or him, to try to relabel it something it is not. If it can stand on it's own, the labels be damned. It leads me to believe that you are aware that he is a centrist, and all that that implies. So you have to go and try to redefine the words, in some sort of Orwellian fashion.

|
even though they oppose legalizing marijuana, wouldn't even CONSIDER single-payer health insurance and instead gave health insurers a virtually no-strings-attached legal mandate to rob us, are engaged in occupations in 2 countries that did nothing to us, support a bloated military budget beyond all reasonable, sane necessity and won't consider slashing that, give environmental impact waivers to giant planet-destroying oil companies, give lip service to being "fierce advocates" of GLBT rights while doing nothing for them, call real liberals names that apparently we can't say here on DU and equate them with "extremists," continue to hold kidnapped people without charging them with any crime and lie about it, continue to spy without warrant--somehow now they've suddenly become "liberals" and "progressives."
oh, and progressives are "pragmatic." seems the little wannabes are trying to co-opt the labels they themselves denigrate. they wannabe one of "us," one of The People, isn't that cute?

|
Edited on Wed May-12-10 10:25 AM by alcibiades_mystery
It is cooked in giant industrial stainless steel ovens with grease stains smeared on the doors. It is served on paper plates that don't near fit the slice, and thrust into white paper bags that go orange from grease. Maybe that's not the way they do it in Darien, or whatever, but that's how it works in Queens and brooklyn and the bronx and any other place that takes its NYC pizza seriously.

and it just is not as good to me. But then maybe we grow up liking what we like. I don't dislike the deep dish but I grew up in an Italian family and lived in CT my whole life so I am used to the thinner crust or the other type of Italian pizza popular in NY (a little more wide and not baked in a brick oven). We do have Greek Pizza here as well...thicker crust. So 3 great types of pizza in one place.

Surely you must know that almost every pizzeria in Chicago serves thin crust, and only some offer deep-dish or pan or stuffed pizza. I can't think of one major pizza joint that doesn't serve thin crust. If you've been foolish enough to believe "Geno's East" or "Pizzeria Uno" represents Chicago pizza, you've been duped; those are tourist traps.
I think there are plenty of fine places in and around the city where one can get good pizza. If you really think we serve "shit" in this town, why the hell don't you leave?

Total shit thin crust. It's awful.
Why should I leave? I have a nice job, and I even like it here. Just because there isn't any good pizza to be had isn't a reason to leave (or run off to the suburbs, ahem). You can't get a decent burrito in NYC, for example, but that's no reason to leave.
Notice that I never said "Geno's East" or "Pizzeria Uno." I know Chicago pizza perfectly well. I've had plenty. It all sucks.
