Judge rejects argument lawmakers intended to “impose their religious beliefs.”

A judge in Missouri says lawmakers who passed a restrictive abortion ban were not trying to impose their religious beliefs on everyone in the state, rejecting a case filed by more than a dozen Christian, Jewish and Unitarian Universalist leaders who support abortion rights.

The groups sought a permanent injunction last year barring Missouri from enforcing its abortion law and a declaration that provisions violate the state Constitution.

One section of the statute at issue reads: “In recognition that Almighty God is the author of life, that all men and women are ‘endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among those are Life.’”

Judge Jason Sengheiser said in his ruling Friday that there is similar language in the preamble to the Missouri Constitution, which expresses “profound reverence for the Supreme Ruler of the Universe.” The rest of the challenged provisions contain no explicit religious language, he said..................

Is creepy, lying @GOP Sen. Tim Scott the only person Sunday news shows can get on their shows??

JONATHAN KARL: Would you now favor Congress acting to ban bumpstocks? You said after the Vegas shooting that if the vote came up, it would sail through Congress.

TIM SCOTT: Well, I'm strongly in support of the 2nd amendment.

KARL: I asked about bumpstocks, not the 2nd amendment.

SCOTT: We're gonna focus on the priorities of the American people, and what the priorities of the American people are today is to focus on closing our southern border.

At Biden Fund-Raiser, Hollywood and Democrats Let the Trump Attacks Fly

Source: new york times

The Biden campaign said it raised at least $28 million on Saturday, at a fund-raiser in Los Angeles, where entertainers, Barack Obama and even Jill Biden assailed Donald J. Trump.

A Hollywood fund-raiser Saturday night intended to bolster President Biden’s war chest turned into a platform for some of the most concerted and toughest attacks to date on former President Donald J. Trump by the Biden campaign, as entertainers, Barack Obama and even Jill Biden assailed Mr. Trump’s ethics and his suitability to return to the White House.

Ms. Biden, after being introduced by Barbra Streisand,...........

“Mr. Trump has told us again and again why he wants the White House — to give himself absolute power, to not be held accountable for his criminal action,” Ms. Biden continued. His aim, she told the crowd, “was to destroy the democratic safeguards that stand in his way.”

Mr. Obama invoked Mr. Trump’s felony convictions — something that Mr. Biden has for the most part avoided doing — to applause from the crowd.

“We have the spectacle of the nominee of one of the two major parties sitting in court and being convicted by a jury of his peers on 34 counts,” Mr. Obama said. Listing off a series of what he described as offenses by Mr. Trump, he noted that “you have his organization being prosecuted for not paying taxes. Set aside all the other stuff he says —”

President Biden picked up his microphone: “He paid none.”.........................

Kyle Rittenhouse Celebrates Supreme Court Bump Stock Ruling

Published Jun 15, 2024 at 10:42 AM EDT

Gun rights activist Kyle Rittenhouse, who as a 17-year-old shot and killed two Black Lives Matter protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 2020, celebrated the Supreme Court's ruling on Friday lifting a Trump-era ban against bump stocks.

"Time to celebrate and buy a bump stock," the 21-year-old wrote on X on Friday after the U.S. top court ruled with a 6 to 3 majority that the federal government had been wrong to classify bump stocks as machine guns.

Newsweek contacted Rittenhouse by direct message on X on Saturday morning.

The Trump administration had banned bump stocks—devices that replace a rifle's standard stock allowing the weapon to slide back and forth more quickly and fire more rapidly, repeatedly—in 2018, after the devices were found in several of the rifles used by the gunman of the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting.

Prosecutors in Michigan, Nevada and Wisconsin are investigating new evidence (audio below) that implicates Ron Johnson in Donald’s fake elector scheme.

The best part: Donald can NEVER pardon him. 👇

After Republicans tried to ban it last year, the World Naked Bike Ride returns to Madison Wisconsin

I have not participated but certainly sat with others having a brew on State Street as the bikers went pedaled by.
We just waved. Personally, I would think it would be uncomfortable.

Anyways, it is a rather lengthy article-includes how some legislators tried to ban it.

MADISON – Less than a year after lawmakers in the state Capitol attempted to ban it, the World Naked Bike Ride made a triumphant return to downtown Madison on Saturday.

About 200 participants rolled toward the statehouse around 11:30 a.m., soliciting cheers, high fives, waves, cellphone photos and causing some adults and children to look away.

Many take part in the ride as an expression of body positivity and as a protest of greenhouse gas emissions. Other participants say the ride helps their confidence and mental health, or attend after surviving breast cancer and having mastectomies.

Holly McEntee, who has participated about seven times, had seen the ride happen in the past but was struck when she saw a short film about it.................
