Same thing happened with Bush Jr. People rated him highly on "strong and decisive," because he acted like a cowboy even though it seemed clear he was being manipulated by neocons.

A poll that simply states "Democrats 52% Deplorables 37" tells us nothing, particularly since so many Democrats are concentrated in densely packed urban areas which fewer representatives.
