Love when a conversation leads to: *Im not a Republican or a Democrat*...

and then it’s followed by some stereotype BS that Rush or Hannity would have spewed.

"independents" who say i vote for the person -- not the party. we know what democrats stand for and what republicans stand for. this tax bill speaks volumes.

8. When I was young, idealist & very stupid, I would often say I vote for the person not party

Open minded. What ever....

I stopped saying that around my late 30's. I still feel that way, voting for the better person that is. I still vote for the better person. But what I realized is I always ended up voting for the Democrat. After a few election cycles, it was pretty obvious that I am a Democrat. So I stopped hanging on to the idealist notion of being an Independent.

I am a Democrat. And a very liberal one at that.

I had a chat recently with a young person, (she is 28, I am 51). She said what I used to say at her age. She votes for the best person and doesn't really like aligning with a party. I told her I used to be like that. Then I looked at my "independent" votes. They were all for Democrats. I asked my friend if her voting showed a pattern yet. She has voted Democrat on everything so far. I said, "Congrats! You are a Democrat. It's easier to embrace it then deny it."

With their snobby "I'm above it all" attitude. When in reality, they are just letting themselves be blown by whatever winds the actual voters inflict on them. The "real Americans" are the ones who bother to vote.

5. Makes sense. They got there by listening to disinformation and believing all government is corrupt

regardless of party.

Neither Fox nor Putin needs to turn everyone into Republicans to win elections. They just have to make what ought to be the Democratic base so cynical that they don't trust any politician.

for politics like it seems here. I come here to find out what is going on, but my passion isn't the same. I typically don't get upset until now with this horrific tax reform. I don't think I can afford it and I'm a bit beside myself

Trump unmasked him. He turned out to be a hard-leaning, right-winger with racist overtones.

Though I should have suspected it because his mother is a birther.

Just call yourself a freaking Republican/Republican voter. So-called fake "independents" annoy the hell out of me. Just who do they think they are fooling?

It has long been my experience that so-called Independents are just closeted Repubs who are ashamed enough to openly claim that mantle, but not so ashamed to vote for them.
