Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI found yesterday I will have a grandchild by summer.
I have a friend who I consider my daughter.
She is 28.
She met a great young man and now they are having a baby.
They ask me to marry them and I will on New Years eve.
I am so happy.
What will America be like by the summer.
I know I will fight like hell for that kid.
I got the best present I could ever get.

(1,588 posts)We had a hay ride this morning to the meadow to cut the tree and we have 3 little kids staying for the holidays.
The kids had a great time.
That is when it really hit me.
The kids laughing and all excited.
There will be a future.

(60,189 posts)We just found out that we will have a grandchild by summer, too.
Small world! We don't even know if our daughter plans to get her child US citizenship (the baby will automatically be German due to the child being born in Germany to a German father). We hope she would do it, if for no other reason than that dual nationality makes it REALLY easy to live and work in both the USA and the EU without applying for permission. After all, it was her ticket to a meteoric career and a dream job and salary. But it's strictly her call.
It will certainly be an adjustment!

My daughter is not showing yet but I already love that baby.
I so glad for that German citizenship.

(2,682 posts)I'll have a great grandson. My cause for concern is two-fold: what kind of country is he coming into and concern for his father who is active-duty military. It's depressing when this should be the thrill of my life.

(1,588 posts)I feel the same way.
