(29,626 posts)It sounds as if every effort has been made to preserve it, they're saving the wood, and there are offshoots of it already planted.
I really wish Newseek would change this headline.

(141,926 posts)and neither are comments suggesting evil-doing at such times.
'CNN obtained documents from specialists at the United States National Arboretum, which determined the magnolia tree must be removed. The tree is completely dependent on artificial support, the document read.
The document said, Without the extensive cabling system, the tree would have fallen years ago. Presently, and very concerning, the cabling system is failing on the east trunk, as a cable has pulled through the very thin layer of wood that remains. It is difficult to predict when and how many more will fail.
A White House official told CNN that the first lady made the decision after reviewing and assessing professional information and historical documents. Mrs. Trump personally reviewed the reports from the United States National Arboretum and spoke at length with her staff about exploring every option before making the decision to remove a portion of the magnolia tree, Trumps communications director, Stephanie Grisham, told CNN. After reviewing the reports, she trusted that every effort had been made to preserve the historic tree and was concerned about the safety of visitors and members of the press, who are often standing right in front of the tree during Marine One lifts.
The tree was about to fall, and experts recommended its removal. Mrs. Trump, according to Grisham, has requested to preserve the wood from the tree.'

(135,530 posts)It's a dead tree that's about to fall down. Might as well remove it safely.
None of us are fans of the Trump's but this story is nothing more than click bait.

(12,519 posts)Unfortunately removal is necessary for safety. I've seen it done where I live. I think in this case it's necessary for safety reasons. She talked to arborists and experts and they evidently agree.
I have no love for her but demonizing her over this tree removal is a cheap shot.

This kind of fake news makes this site look ridiculous.
Why do people do this?

(25,586 posts)removing that old, sick, half-rotten tree for a decade or more. This story keeps getting posted and people keep responding to it without reading anything. It makes us look dumb.

Dems are just as bad as Republicans in this regard. The dumbing down has gone full circle.

(6,289 posts)They cant possibly be partisan or biased - theyd rather just throw outrage fodder into the water to try and attract as many clicks as possible.

Bad form.

(38,607 posts)Yes, the Trumps are vile. But there are plenty of vile things they do to complain about, without criticizing and hyping the responsible decision as if was an off-the-cuff ego-driven decision.

Seems needless to assign it to anyone other than the grounds staff!

(16,398 posts)I am glad this tree did not have to come down during the Obama years. The vast majority of commenters in this thread is calling out the BS headline. If this happened a few years ago we would be hearing how Obama poisoned the tree or had cut it down to make a Muslim alter.
Botany
(77,276 posts)The tree was looked at by experts from the National Arboretum who said
it needed to come down.

(7,911 posts)If the arborists had recommended to the Obamas that the tree be removed I'm sure Fox News would have stoked the same kind of fake outrage. There's nothing to be gained by hate mongering from either side.
Oneironaut
(6,289 posts)Reading the article tells why the tree was actually removed.
But, muh ad revenue!
