Wieland Welzel... By far my favorite active timpanist---

Crank up your speakers for both of these and you will see why I was a timpanist, among other things...

Berlin Phil - Simon Rattle, cond
beginning of 4th mvt of Mahler Sym #1.
Look at Wieland smile at 1:20.. He KNOWS !!!! Wonderful guy, too...

And Paris Opera - Paavo Jarvi, cond
end of Sibelius 2nd SYM start at 40:00
Very "French" style of timpani playing .
If this doesn;t get a rise out of you, you are already deceased.. :&gt ))

I do not pretend to understand the moral universe; the arc is a long one, my eye reaches but little ways; I cannot calculate the curve and complete the figure by the experience of sight; I can divine it by conscience. And from what I see I am sure it bends towards justice. Theodore Parker

While as an atheist, I personally do not necessarily ascribe to a universe, moral or otherwise, bending its arc one way or the other, we need to take our inspiration for a brighter future where we find it.

Just not Lawrence O'Donnell's wife, since he doesn't have one. I understand he and Tamron Hall are an item. But, she's 47, so the odds of her having a baby are kind of slim. That's around the time women start going through "the change."
