The media represents world that is more real than reality that we can experience. People lose the ability to distinguish between reality and fantasy. They also begin to engage with the fantasy without realizing what it really isnt. They seek happiness and fulfilment through the simulacra of reality, e.g. media and avoid the contact/interaction with the real world.
This describes the low-information Trump voter to a tee. As Trump himself said, he could shoot someone in the middle of fifth avenue and he wouldnt lose a single voter. Think what you want of Trump, he instinctively knows how to stimulate and lead a substantial segment of America. He is the PT Barnum of the simulacra. Because of this, he is an extreme danger to what we want America to be.
