We hear talking heads on the news shows continually criticize Trump. We see the press ask Trump questions and never call him on any of his stupid answers and probe further. For example: when he says no one knows more about the tax bill or healthcare - why don't they ask him some detailed questions and make him eat his words because he doesn't have a grasp on the details. Why do the Repugs continually circle the wagons around this guy? Why do his staff always make excuses for him? Why is it the majority of Americans make fun of him and realize everything that comes from his mouth is a lie? Why do his lawyers placate him by only telling him what he wants to hear or he believes? Why don't his family confront him and tell him he is ruining his 'brand'? Why can't this guy realize he's only fooling himself? Why is it everyone else has to be politically correct and he doesn't? How is it he can blatantly break laws and keep getting away with it? How is it the guy keeps getting away with breaking laws? How is it he can't be stopped? Everybody knows he is taking this country apart piece by piece and we let him do this?
We all know this - yet he keeps on throwing crap in our faces?
I am so demoralzed. We are better than this. We are bigger than Trump.
How is this all happening in full view of the world - yet he still persists?
I just don't understand? HELP!

He claims the stock market has never risen this quick. Lie.
There are so many. All we hear are newscasters saying this or that is "false," but no one gets close enough.

(17,863 posts)It started with Matt Lauer. Even the debate questions were poor. The latest NYTimes travesty. You don't have to be insulting, but you do need to be prepared to challenge answers with intelligent follow up questions. Are these reporters just stupid? I would love to have my former debate partner ask him questions. He is moving up the journalism ranks now. He would leave Trump a quivering lump with just a few questions.

(2,162 posts)If they pushed back, or asked him tough questions, hed get upset and wont invite them to all the parties the cool kids go to.
This is the same reason other Republicans dont (in general) get asked tough questions.
On the other hand, the Democrats arent vindictive little shits, so they are fair game.

(25,245 posts)We hear that one needs to confront a bully to put the bully in his or her place. Why isn't anyone doing that to Trump? Why are people so afraid of Trump? He's got to have a weakness that we can exploit to put him in his place.

(17,003 posts)"stands up to" a two year-old having a temper tantrum. What he says is meaningless. No one listens to him. They do what they want and tell him he's wonderful and everyone's happy. Well, all the deplorables and repubs are happy. We are left scratching our heads wondering when the insanity is going to end.

(26,262 posts)Trust me - it is an exercise in EXTREME futility and leads to nothing but exhausting frustration. A narcissist will never be held to account or admit they are wrong, or accept responsibility for any harm they do.
I had a co-worker who showed pretty much every single trait of a narcissist. Trying to deal with her was like trying to swat a fruit fly. You ask a question, they deflect. You ask again, the deflect from their deflection. I remember our boss trying to get a straight answer out of her, as to why she was so far behind on her work, and I thought she was going to end up punching this individual.
One of the reasons I took an early retirement was that I couldn't bear dealing with her, any longer. You know how trump* targets people/associations for abuse? I was this individual's 'Hillary Clinton'.

(12,344 posts)The only thing that worked was bringing everything to a crisis followed by an investigation. Narcissists don't do well under investigations because their usual BS doesn't work well with diligent investigators. I had everything well documented and told the truth, so I won. This is why I think Mueller will bring him down.

(26,262 posts)When I turned in my resignation, HR asked if there was anything, ANYTHING they could do to make me change my mind. I said, sure - fire this individual. The color drained from their face. So I told them, fine. They were losing a great employee because they didn't have the stones to fire a bad one.
6 months later they asked me to please come back for just 3 months to help with a massive backlog of work. My only demand was that this individual be warned to not even look in my direction. And she didn't. But, after I left, on my first day, she was seen hanging around my cubicle. The next day I discovered a whole lot of my notes, and personal items were gone. I have no doubt she stole them, just to make sure I knew she still had a target on my back. I didn't bother HR with this. What would be the point. They installed new locks on cabinets and overhead and I finished my stint.

(17,863 posts)You are right. Matt Lauer had the opportunity to make history. He should have asked the same four or five policy questions of each candidate, and one personal confrontational question of each at the end.

(4,429 posts)They shouldn't. When a BS artist is spewing BS - just look over at them, shake your head sadly, and then report the facts.
They are always two steps behind because they are trying to make sense of nonsense. They invite Trumpster-lites on to make further clarifications. They shouldn't make sense of it - or invite those idiots on to 'explain' - just say it's wrong and then report the real facts.
There ARE real facts out there.......

(13,390 posts)One of the worst and scariest things about Trump is his lack of self monitoring. Not just because of what it means on the domestic front. What he says can have serious international complications. Is it possible that there is some effort to imposing some monitoring to distract him from saying shit that could start wars?
There is more to demonizing an incompetent president than satisfying the public. We've never been here. There are a lot of variables besides us and our opposition.

(81,239 posts)Anything that hurts his ego is a beneficial thing.
I sometimes indulge in imagining that the collective press suddenly wakes up and realizes that all they're doing is reinforcing bad behavior when they cover him non-stop. He WANTS that attention. He WANTS to be the center of the universe. He WANTS everybody talking about him and puzzling over him and obsessing on him. So how 'bout we take the pacifier away? Put him on ignore for a day (or more)! And I realize that'll never happen. But it's a fun thought-exercise.

I'm not any more fond of tweety than anyone else here, but he's our fire to fight chumpy's fire. I don't want to link the whole interview, but you can find it on YouTube by putting "Chris Matthews Donald Trump interview" into the search engine.
But, probably after that interview and chumpy having to take back and "reinterpret" his answers to those questions, he will never consent to another interview with Matthews in this lifetime.
