One of the lesser oddities of the Trump era is that the president and his party have managed to achieve historic levels of unpopularity even as the unemployment rate has fallen to a decade low, and the stock market has soared to all-time highs. Few presidents have enjoyed such favorable, first-year macroeconomic numbers and none have suffered such unfavorable political ones.
This is largely a testament to the extraordinary toxicity of Donald Trumps persona, and the heinous unpopularity of his partys policy priorities. Americans actually give Trumps handling of the economy a positive approval rating but dislike his handling of the presidency, nonetheless.

(60,010 posts)Many people applied for Soc. Sec. disability, a lot of them got on.
As it was, the MSM and Gov. people tip-toed around ways to say the crash was not a real Depression.
They called it "reminds of the Depression", and other euphemisms.
Now Ryan et al are talking about cutting the Soc. Sec. disability program.
Not to be confused with the state disability programs, or SSI, which makes one also eligible for Medicaid.
Both of those are being cut by the states.
It was the Depression that forced the creation of Soc. Sec, and Medicare in the first place.
Essentially, conditions have been set for another great Depression.
and I have to say I don't take unemployment numbers and the stock market as a good indicator of how the economy is for the 99 percent. They used to be good indicators but are not anymore. Unemployment is low right now but you have to factor in that a lot of the jobs that are being created are low wage jobs which are not beneficial to the 99 percent.
