(15,472 posts)Talking to members of the NRA ,is closer to talking to a Jehovah Witness ,but Scientology is close enough.

(22,144 posts)Unlike PETA, NAMBLA or Scientology, the NRA can mobilize a large number of voters, many who do not like the NRA itself, but have common cause.
It has been noted that it has an impact on any election where gun issues are put to voters.

(6,268 posts)I would say scientology, based on process of elimination.
NRA doesn't perform crazy PR stunts like PETA... they also are all about shooting some animals, not saving them.
NRA doesn't advocate molesting anybody like NAMBLA (or any other felonious acts).
Arctic Dave
(13,812 posts)mass casualty shooting event isn't a crazy PR stunt?

(6,268 posts)Does the NRA itself even organize/run ANY gunshows?

(24,612 posts)that was allowed to use my republican aunt's office for fundraising. I heard the volunteers making phone calls and claiming they were from the NRA. I knew they weren't. By the way, the repug running for office was later caught up in a scandal involving a drunken ruckus at a bar with his mistress.

(10,960 posts)If I could pick anything it would be easy -- the republican party.
But of the three choices PETA seemed an easy pick to me.
NAMBLA and Scientology both promote something that is just flat wrong from the jump.
PETA takes something okay (as the NRA would be if it was just about safety classes and such) and turns it into a grotesque mess through extremism of viewpoint.
I am not saying that animal rights and gun ownership are equally worthy but, again, there were only three choices.
petronius
(26,696 posts)I'm holding out for the implied 'Other/None of the above.'
Of the three, though, you make a good case...

(24,689 posts)The powerful, rich, extremist, fanatical, warmongering, fearmongering Jewish Israel Zionist lobby pushes their agenda on the American people and the rest of us suffer for it. Only the NRA causes more harm to this country than they do.

(17,671 posts)The SBC profits from traditional faith - which is a pretty normal thing for humans. The NRA profits from the need for survival - self defense. Another basic and natural human need.
But maybe its because I'm more familiar with the SBC.

(2,175 posts)You need to find an example of an organization that is just kicking their opponents asses. To the point that even when there's a huge news story that would seem sure to sway public opinion against their agenda there's no noticeable support on the part of the voting public to put in place laws or measures the organization would oppose.
That's what the NRA would be more like.
Arctic Dave
(13,812 posts)Didn't think about that until you put in that light.

(2,175 posts)I guess ya got me there dude.
Of course, a child is much more likely to be molested by a teacher than a priest, so maybe the NEA of AFT would be a better analogy, but still that was a great ad hominem.
