Senator Graham,
I was born and bred in South Carolina and have followed its politics for over 60 years. I am a Democrat and have disagreed with you about policies many times. However, I also know a little of your life story and your determination to succeed while taking care of your sister is very admirable. As a JAG and a Senator I felt you were a good representative for our state no matter how much we differed.
However, I no longer recognize the person I have admired. You have gone from a critic of the Trump administration on several vital issues to a lapdog who does nothing. As a JAG and from your Senatorial experience, you of all people know the damage being done in many areas. This is well beyond Democrat versus Republican. People are taking sides about the very foundations our country was built upon.
There have been many rumors that you are being blackmailed. I would have dismissed this out of hand but your behavior is so unlike the person I have admired. I am ashamed of you.
As a JAG, you took an oath as well as when you became a Senator. Either uphold that oath even at risk to yourself or resign immediately. I know I may be asking a steep price, but this country is worth any price and that includes sacrificing me and mine. If it ever reaches that point, I will not stand on the sidelines and watch the destruction.
Man up or get out. You can be Smedly Butler or Benedict Arnold. The choice is yours.
(Short version: Get up or get out)

(28,794 posts)or russian kompromat? cause i tend to think the former. like when they went golfing he was casually shown some pictures of himself doing something he does not want the public to know about. like that. of course we may never know.
i sure do wonder. he isn't just a lapdog doing nothing at this point, with the letter he and grassley sent, he's actively working to undo the rule of law in the USA.

(6 posts)The nature of the blackmail is a pretty logical inference, since we know Graham's change of heart dated from the golf outings with Trump, and we know Trump's typical modus operandi--he would have threatened to out him.
barbtries
(28,794 posts)but that would not be a death knell for Graham, unless he was struck down due to decades of hypocrisy. i was thinking possibly something more lurid and as grits mentioned, quite possibly illegal.

(17,111 posts)I believe unless its pedophelia or some extraordinarily illegal behavior, he can recover if he acts for the country. It may be a long way back, but hes going to go down as a traitor if he doesnt act.

How many of that patron's opponents have been hushed - permanently or slowly like a cat playing with a mouse?
Most of the craven repuglicans have already figured out that they better play ball with little donnie/family or tone down their rare ethics to match the T/RU flag.

(12,608 posts)Confirmed: Lindsey Graham took huge money from Kremlin oligarch

* I'm sure this came up when they were so-called playing golf.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)and as even Palmer Report doesn't neglect to note, the money was legally donated to PACs, not directly to Republican politicians. Of course, it was Republican politicians who wrote and passed the law allowing foreigners to legally donate money to influence American politics through PACs.
Russia's favoring of Graham is very suspicious, of course. They all need to be investigated.

(58,785 posts)for the good of the nation or some such tripe? Given the power of those people, it seems very likely to me that talk in some meeting must have progressed at least enough to be a grave concern, even if it didn't tip over the criminal line into active planning. Though who knows?
Wonder if a full record of the hearings will ever turn up or if all were destroyed?
