"He saw a dazed woman put out in the cold by a Baltimore hospital. He started filming."

The man hurried up the Baltimore sidewalk with a camera in his hand as four black-clad hospital security guards walked toward him, then past him. One of them was pushing an empty wheelchair.

“So wait, y’all just going to leave this lady out here with no clothes on?” said Imamu Baraka, referring to a dazed woman wearing only a thin hospital gown and socks whom they had left alone at a bus stop Tuesday night in mid-30s temperatures. Her face appeared bloody, her eyes empty.

It was the latest incident of “patient dumping,” which has sparked outrage around the country — and one that, according to an expert, probably violated a 1986 federal law that mandates hospitals release those in their care into a safe environment.

“This kind of behavior is, I think, both illegal and I’m sure immoral,” said Arthur L. Caplan, founding head of the division of medical ethics at the New York University School of Medicine. “You don’t just throw someone out into the street who is impaired and may have injuries. You try to get them to the best place possible, and that’s not the bench in front of the hospital.”

'The University of Maryland Medical Center’s top executive apologized to a patient who was discharged and found on the street wearing only a thin hospital gown and socks outside its midtown facility, calling it an isolated incident.

“We take full responsibility for this failure,” Dr. Mohan Suntha said during a Thursday afternoon news conference. The hospital did not provide “basic humanity and compassion,” he added.

Suntha, the Baltimore hospital’s president and CEO, said the hospital system is investigating the incident and is talking to everyone who came into contact with the woman, including guards, nurses and doctors. It also is reviewing its discharge policies.'

“We firmly believe what occurred Tuesday night does not reflect who we are,” said Mohan Suntha, the hospital’s president and chief executive. “We are trying to understand the points of failure that led to what we witnessed on that video.”

That is exactly who you are POS Suntha, An uncaring bureaucrat trying to make profits at the expense of the poor, sick, and helpless.

The ACA has a lot of parts, but its main purpose is to subsidize and expand people's access to health insurance. It doesn't directly pay for care.

In most states, it provides greater coverage of Medicaid to extremely low-income people. But mostly, it subsidizes the cost of insurance for working class and middle class people. It also sets certain standards for those insurance policies.

It isn't universal health care. I wish it was, but it isn't. Unfortunately, many people still fall through the cracks of our for-profit health industry and the ACA doesn't cut the insurance companies out.

Everybody pays in. Everybody is fully covered.

Hospitals and doctors know what will be reimbursed and what will not, and have a say in the difference.

The insurance does not have to be government-run, but most of it should be not-for-profit.

What, they stole her clothes?!? Not the worst part about what they did but still. This has been an on-going issue with hospitals even though it is against the law. Short of an incident like this they tend to get way with it. The patients they dump are rarely in a position to do anything about it. Yeah, all those folks from Norway just lining up to get here.

Why is this even a "thing". This shouldn't exist anywhere in the world, nevermind here in the U.S.A. a First World Country!

There shouldn't need to be a definition of this.....
