Exclusive: Mark Wahlberg refused to approve Christopher Plummer unless he was paid

https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/people/2018/01/11/exclusive-mark-wahlberg-refused-approve-christopher-plummer-unless-he-paid/1026347001/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Mark Wahlberg refused to approve Christopher Plummer as a replacement for Kevin Spacey in All the Money in the World unless he was paid over a million dollars for the reshoot, USA TODAY has learned.

Wahlberg had co-star approval in his contract, two people familiar with the situation but not authorized to speak publicly about it tell USA TODAY.

"What he said was, 'I will not approve Christopher Plummer unless you pay me.' And that's how he (expletive) them," says one person.

I know what movie I won't be going to see

16. He wasn't the one who caused Williams not to be paid -- that was the fault of her agent,

who represented both of them, and allowed a clause in her contract that said she had to do re-shoots for free.

And Wahlberg has just donated his salary on the re-shoot to charity, in Williams's name. So I don't know why people are criticizing him.

4. Did Wahlberg have lots of scenes already shot with Spacey?

If so, I can understand him wanting to get paid for doing tons of reshoots.

17. Yes, and he had a lot more scenes to be reshot than Williams did. I blame the agent

who negotiated both their contracts.

I guess, congrats to Marky-Mark for having a good agent?

10. Wahlberg stars in every other movie released these days, his

time is valuable. He negotiated a business deal, so what? He did nothing wrong or dishonest, but went ahead and donated the money anyway. Seems to me hes a stand up guy.
If he was a democratic activist the people here trashing him would be stepping all over each other to defend his actions. Of this I have no doubt because I see it done here every day.

So what is the problem?

12. Wahlberg's a busy actor and producer. Reshoots may even have cost him time/money on other projects.

I can't blame him for negotiating compensation for the extra work. I'd imagine the others would have done the same thing if they'd had a similar bargaining chip in their contracts. I bet they work a new clause into their contracts next time.

13. 1) Machinist reads blueprints and makes parts

2) Employer changes blueprints and demands new parts

3a) Does machinist make new parts for free
or
3b) Does machinist get paid for making new parts

and negotiated a contract for HER that required her to do re-shoots for free.

26. Good point.

Marky Mark should have pushed for HER to get the extra money too, out of simple fairness.

She was glad to do the reshoots essentially for free, but it's about more than her on this.

18. I thought it was understandable because

He had to put the other movie he was directing on hold to re-do this work. That put a lot more people than him in a bind.

25. A few months ago, "Marky Mark" was attacking Hollywood people for making political statements.

Makes you wonder if he was trying to protect himself from blowback because he knew the pay equity issue on this would go public.

27. I have seen several different reports on this saying different things

I would have a problem with him having done this to jack up his fee but if merely had both the right to be paid for the reshoot and the right to name costar in his contract as I have read elsewhere then that is a different story. Both he and Williams deserved to be paid for re shoots.

28. This story is all mixed around....

The story here should be that all the other actors and film people were UNDERPAID not that one guy was paid correctly.

Let's imagine something happened at Walmart where they knocked all the shelves over in the storage room or something and 5 people had to work an extra 40 hours some week to fix the storage room. They should all be paid their normal rate.
