Turn Election Day into a four-day holiday weekend

People can vote from 6 AM to 9 PM Friday through to Monday, both days are statutory holidays, voters can register at the polls with ID and proof of address, standard ballots with paper trail, federal government cuts ALL federal funding to states and counties that fail to comply with these measures.

2. You realize that statutory holidays only apply to federal government workers right?

And then only to some of them.

At best you might force it on state government and some municipal workers with threats to withhold funding.

Your idea would have zero effect of all non-government workers as far as them having a holiday.

It would, however, end up with a lot of kids not in school for a four day weekend, meaning you would either have parents scrambling to find child care for those days so they can work (and not happy about it) or you would have tons of people talking vacation days and making a 4 day vacation from it and being out of town the entire period.

It’s not that hard to either show up on Election Day or vote early or absentee. It really isn’t. The notion we need to turn it into a circus of a 4 day weekend holiday is nonsense and wouldn’t accomplish much of anything, and would probably backfire.

5. The point of an Election Day holiday, federal or state, is awareness education and importance.

Seems to me an event once every four years celebrating democracy is on par with an annual turkey mass consumption holiday.

People would use the extra long vacation to travel, highways would be packed, overall voting would go down.

We are, after all, America. It's our God-given right to be irresponsible self-absorbed pricks.
