...
His insult reveals something else to the public, something arguably more insidious and dangerous to our democracy. Trump's vulgar comment lays bare his total ignorance about the country he now leads. Because, by many standards, the United States, is, in fact, a shithole country.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 23,000 infants died in the United States in 2015. The U.S. has the worst rate of maternal deaths in the developed world, and black women in America are three times more likely to die during childbirth than white women. Those rates are continuing to rise, while they decline elsewhere. An American woman giving birth is three times more likely to die than a Canadian woman, and six times more likely to die than a Scandinavian woman.
A 2017 analysis by the CDC Foundation found that nearly 60 percent of all maternal deaths were completely preventable. And yet, Trump and the complicit Republican Party tried, on three separate occasions, to repeal the Affordable Care Act, President Barack Obamas signature health care bill that gave over 13 million women access to maternity services.
In December, the United Nations began investigating extreme poverty in the U.S., the worlds richest country. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 41 million Americans live in poverty, with the top one percent of Americans controlling 38 percent of the nations wealth. Now that the GOP tax bill has been signed into law, our nations wealth inequality will only increase.

There ARE some who can be convinced. Many who JUST DO NOT FOLLOW what happens outside their own lives.... Many who are a waste of time, a mix...

(6,761 posts)the next chapter is doing it to everyone else except the wealthy--cutting or destroying access to health care, education, opportunities, and of course the prospect of a secure retirement.
This is literally life or death--the kook brothers and other oligarchs who are running the country now envision a return to the pre-New Deal America where the peasantry was on its own, to live and die like dogs in the street.
Any dumbass dump voter who thinks they are safe from what's coming because they are white and not dirt-poor better wake up.

WISE, Va. Anthony Marino, 54, reached into his car trunk to show a pair of needle-nosed pliers like the ones he used to yank out a rotting tooth.
Shirley Akers, 58, clutched a list of 20 medications she takes, before settling down to a sleepless night in the cab of a pickup truck.
Robin Neal, 40, tried to inject herself with a used-up insulin pen, but it broke, and her blood sugar began to skyrocket.
As the sun set in the mountains of southwest Virginia, hundreds of hurting souls were camped out or huddled in vehicles, eager for an early place in line when the gates swung open at 5 a.m. for the nations largest pop-up free clinic.

-then you can only shake your head at the depths that this country continues to plumb, through ignorance, bigotry, and hate.
The above article wasn't written 80 years ago during the Depression or 50 years ago during the Civil Rights debate. It was written just 6 months ago over the summer.

(8,421 posts)have to support RAM ( think that is who the author is writing about), things have gotten bad in this country. NOBODY should have to be a "free" patient. This country is going down the tubes.

(172,265 posts)And yes that is who they are writing about. RAM has done an amazing job. And if you think about it, that type of service should be available to EVERYONE via universal healthcare.

We need to explain to these people how they are being shafted because they have been drinking the kool-aid for so long that they are simply ignorant.
