Wait a minute-Dump is in EXCELLENT HEALTH! His cardiac calcium score is 130! I just

had the coronary calcium CT scan a month ago and my score was 12. I'm 76. My doc did not put me on meds but told me to watch my diet. Weather permitting, I walk two miles 4/5 times a week. Doc will send me for annual testing to keep an eye on ticker. And Dump is in EXCELLENT HEALTH!!!

Calcium score 101 to 400

A moderate amount of plaque is present. You have heart disease, and plaque may be blocking an artery. Your chance of having a heart attack is moderate to high. Your health professional may want more tests and may start treatment.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/17/us/politics/trump-physical-heart-health-cholesterol.htm

"Dr. Topol disagreed with Dr. Gupta about the calcium test, which measures the amount of plaque containing calcium in a person’s blood. Higher numbers indicate the development of coronary artery disease, which could lead to dangerous blockages in the heart.

But Dr. Topol said he would not be concerned unless a patient of Mr. Trump’s age came to him with calcium levels of 700 or more.

“That tells you there’s some calcium,” he said. “It doesn’t tell you whether that’s inside or outside the arteries. That doesn’t tell me the risk.”

Wed Jan 17, 2018, 05:23 PM

...and the fact that at 76, Trump isn't very likely to live more than another 10-15 years even if his health is perfect. The test result represents a cumulative risk per year, and a young person has more future years over which to integrate that risk if it isn't addressed.

My cardiologist (I got a spiffy new stent for my 50th birthday, 4 years ago) told me it's all about whether to cath. An angiogram is the only test that is definitive as to whether you are in danger, but it's invasive and costs tens of thousands of dollars. (It also provides for some service possibilities, such as the aforementioned stent.)

My doctor told me that all the other tests are iffy at best. He said he recently had a patient pass a nuclear stress test, a different kind of scan which measures blood flow in the different areas of the heart at rest and under stress, with flying colors. This is a more expensive and "better" test for Coronary Artery Disease than the calcium scan. Dude still had a heart attack two weeks later.

But at Trump's age, you have to justify the cost and possible dangerous complications of a cath. (Angiograms are called "caths" after the catheter which is used to thread your arteries.) At 50, it was worth taking me to the cath lab on the basis of a few numbers that were way out of whack. For someone closer to their natural life expectancy, you have to be much more certain you're addressing an immediate risk to justify the cost and risks of the procedure.

Trump's score indicates the same likely risk per future year as it would for a 50-year-old, but the 50 year old has a lot more future years over which to integrate that risk, so it makes more sense economically to spend $30K performing an angiogram on him just in case something really is seriously wrong.

Calcium build up in the arteries over time as we move into old age is natural. Women's breast get calcium too. You look at the ten year risk number. For a guy in his seventies, this is a good score.

I understand the disappointed people, but that's not a bad score.

You are not even in the same county let alone ballpark.

Calcium scoring has nothing to with blood calcium levels. Soft plaques are fatty and unstable. Over time, they tend to calcify. This test measures arterial calcium which should correlate to plaques.
