In April last year, President Trump stood alongside steelworkers and promised that his Commerce Department would open an investigation into whether imported steel posed a national security risk. The results of that investigation would likely have resulted in tariffs for countries like China.
Nearly 10 months later, the Commerce Department has finally wrapped its probe and sent its findings to President Trump. While the agency wont disclose its findings, it says Trump has 90 days to decide on any potential action.
It may be too little too late for domestic steel workers who feel as though they were political pawns in Trumps presidency.
Were terribly disappointed and hugely frustrated, Leo Gerard, president of the United Steelworkers union, told CNN. Theres been no action that has done anything to protect and defend American jobs.
In some cases were worse off now than we were then.

(46,166 posts)I can't fault them for trying to work with Trump for the sake of the steelworkers. Gerard, a Canadian btw, has a responsibility to keep pushing forward.
Making it publicly known that Trump is a disappointment should be what we hear from Gerard. The more exposure of Trump's lies, the better.
