(54,065 posts)The dad must have had some source of income to snap up such a big house. Other than the perversity of saving money on food for their kids, how did someone like that afford such a spacious home?
How did this go on for two decades with no one catching wind of it?

(182,877 posts)Neighbors had very little interaction with the kids. The kids wouldn't say their names. At one interaction the kids were actually outside putting up a nativity scene and when complimented on it they "just froze up".
I'm sure neighbors might have thought something was weird but they didn't know for sure and didn't want to be wrong. Even if they called the cops could THEY do anything but knock on the door and rely on what they could see through an open door?

(16,124 posts)I can't even imagine doing this to any human being, much less my own child.
I will never understand why people like this continue to have children or have them at all.
I'd say mental illness is probably a factor, but it lets them off too easily. This is just horrific.
What's even worse is that those kids don't even really know that there are decent, caring people out there. I hope they are able to find them and learn to trust.
