Trump knew he was not going to make a deal with Schumer...

He did it as a shot over the bow of McConnell and any Republicans that might be thinking of deserting him.

Either stick with him or he will make a deal with the Democrats.

He is playing them against each other when they should be ignoring him.

They could pass the budget with an agreement to vote on DACA next week some time and the circus would be over.

my read is that he wanted a one-on-one with schumer so he could better pin the blame on him.

Right now, neither Party has the power to pass the budget on their own. Democrats are asking for "bi-partisanship" and the Repubs do not want it. They are sure the Democrats will be blamed.

Insist that at the conclusion of the meeting, the two parties come out for a joint appearance in front of live cameras and microphones, and read a statement that both sides agree to. Otherwise, go meet with yourself, Mr. President.
