GOP strategist Frank Luntz recently held a focus group of Trump voters to commemorate the presidents first year in office and things quickly got out of hand when one member accused his fellow panelists of being a cult.
During the meeting, Luntz asked the voters whether they would vote for Trump again if given the chance. While nearly all members of the Trump focus group said they would happily back the president again in 2020, electrician Paul Allen Kroll said he would not.
Luntz then asked him why and his response infuriated his fellow Trump voters.
Because Im not one of the cult members who thinks everything he does is wonderful, he explained.
When Luntz asked Kroll to elaborate on what he meant by cult, he didnt hold back.
Trump was right, he said while pointing to other people in the room. He could literally kill somebody on Fifth Avenue and you would still love him.
Hillary already killed people! shouted a Trump voter in the audience.

(1,822 posts)Trump is the result of 30 yrs of Rush and 20 of Fox News. He's only saying things that hosts on these shows have said for decades. So to them he speaks "the truth". Once someone believes in you, they will excuse anything else away b/c finally someone in power that sees the world the same way they do.

I'll bet at least half the people who voted for him only did so because they hated HRC. Trained like Pavlov's dogs by Faux and hate radio.

(20,998 posts)...Hillary Clinton could have cured cancer, created nuclear fusion and solved human-induced climate change and a certain subset of very loud and deranged reich-wing voters would still find a way to wallow in "the Hillary Hate."
Hillary couldnt fix climate change when it doesnt exist to these people.

These people will always vote for someone like Trump.
We will never be rid of these idiots, but we should never, ever let them control the machinery of government.

(611 posts)Is that they seldom survive when the personality is gone. And make no mistake, Trump will be gone. With his approval ratings, I cant imagine him being re-elected if he manages to escape impeachment, given a credible Democratic opponent. And if by some miracle both houses turn blue, impeachment is quite possible.
Flake or Romney may even primary him. I believe they are setting themselves up to do so.

(54,420 posts)I went to college there. There were a surprisingly large number of very angry, nasty, opinionated white people there (Luntz apparently couldn't find any black Trump supporters in Philly--not surprising) . The city was ethnically VERY divided, with four main groups who mostly distrusted or outright despised each other.
While I was there, the corrupt police commissioner was a racist lout named Frank Rizzo. He used to get his jollies by clubbing anti-Vietnam War protesters with his billy club which he proudly wore in the cummerbund of his tuxedo at formal occasions (!!). Rizzo ran for mayor as a Democrat and won easily (so much for the "City of Brotherly Love." No brother got much love from Rizzo). It was the first election I ever voted in, and the only time I ever voted for a Republican.

(10,197 posts)The police would raid the frat houses during their parties. Then leave the students in jail over the weekend. They did it about once a month.
The called them Rizzo's Raiders. Is it true that they put a statue up to the pig?

(54,420 posts)I couldn't believe it, but I was in Philly about ten years ago, and saw it myself, right in Center City.
I have to be back there again later this year. It's probably still there. An unfortunate waste of some perfectly good scrap metal.

(54,420 posts)Republicans cynically named National Airport "Ronald Reagan National Airport," even though Regan hated Washington and air traffic controllers in particular. A statue of Reagan, eerily similar to the Rizzo statue in downtown Philly, greets all who arrive at National by car.
I actually grew up in Northern Virginia, and whenever I check in for a flight headed there, and the check-in staff calls my destination "Washington-Reagan," I always tell them, "please call it National, not Reagan. Those of us who are originally from there NEVER call it Reagan." Most airport staff are understanding. After all, Reagan hated Washington, and we hated him.

I always found a lot of irony that they named an airport after him

(54,420 posts)How dare a bunch of bible belt outsiders name our airport after some half senile right wing actor who never liked us or our town in the first place? We never demanded that Montgomery be renamed "Hillaryville."

(22,976 posts)You dont. Theyre unreachable.
Indeed, they do exhibit cult-like behaviors: suspicion of outsiders; heavily filtered and slanted sources of information (and demonization of any/all legitimate news publications and sources); the need for court flattery of their leader; the need to elevate their king-asshole Imperfect Vessel with their delusion that a supreme being had a direct hand in human affairs and personally selected their leader; their denial of science, education, intellectual pursuits; their eager willingness to grant their leader additional powers; and steadfastly ignore ANY revelations about criminal activity and conspiracy with a hostile foreign power.
On top of this, there also is a cultish need to discredit ANY person who publicly criticizes their leader; and the hateful, manifold deflections of blame onto Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and the ultimate bogeyman (good for any occasion): George Soros DEEP STATE.
Farmer-Rick
(10,197 posts)And the sickest thing about it is they do it to themselves.
Most cult member are kind of hoodwinked into being part of the group and then the other members force their doctrine on them. They are kind of hijacked and prevented from getting away until they have been fully brainwashed. But not Trump cult followers, most of them can move away from the constant brainwashing and propaganda. But they don't.
There was the father of the young man who works on my farm. He came by yesterday to pick up his son and we got to talking. The father is on disability and there were some chores I had to do and I thought his family could use a few bucks. I pay above minimum to my part time workers. Since I can only afford part time, I feel a higher hourly rate compensates them....and people don't mind working the few hours I've got to give.
The next thing I know, the man is spouting on about Obama's birth certificate and how wonderful Trump is. I bit my tongue and as his son got in, I told the father that I hoped Trump doesn't shut down the government and his government checks wouldn't get delayed, while Trump was partying in Mara-la-go. He looked stunned, as if he hadn't thought about it. Well, now it's looking more likely.

(562 posts)The one thing Trump did that had this cult openly calling for his impeachment was his "deal" with Schumer and Pelosi to keep DACA and not build a wall.
So I deduce their undying support depends on Trump keeping this war on minorities.
It may extend further than that to keeping up a war against democrats.
