The shutdown is the ultimate ego trip for trump. He is wallowing in his nihilistic narcissism
feeling the glory in his power to shutdown the most powerful government in the world. Draped in whores, awash in Russian cash and beholding to Putin and the Russian mafia, he will linger in this shutdown for as long as he possibly can. All attention is on him.
America and it’s populace, supporters or not, are of no interest as an ideal to him. Only as a vehicle to his perception of how powerfully ominous and dread inducing he can be.
As a comic book character, I would think that Ming the Merciless would be an apt comparison. Even the interests of those to whom you would anticipate some sort of fellowship, like the Republican house and senate leadership, are little more than toys to be discarded at whim and will.
As Ming the merciless might say: I’m bored, find me a planet to destroy.
